I've thinking about clearing some more off my pasture to make it a bit easier to plant a large vetch patch. I've still got some brush piles from where I cleaned off a large chunk 5 or 6 years ago. I'm going to get a dozer in to push some cedars and small elms over and level some terraces to a flatter surface.
I wonder where you can rent one of the front grapplers that they use in place of a bucket on a front loader?
Anybody know of a place you can rent one for a week or so?
I'm going to cut down on the number of brush piles to a few big ones instead of several small ones.
Brush piles are good for wild life so I'm definitely not going to make that pasture a pure hay meadow.

Try Kirby-Smith Machinery, RSC or Sunstate Equipment. If they can't help you, they'll know who can.

Big thanks!
I've tried RSC up in Edmond before but they didn't seem to have much in the way of agricultural equipment other than a small tractor and brush hog. But that was several years ago.
I'll definitely give them a try again!

RSC has a skid steer with grapple at $400 a day. I think it may be cheaper to hire it done.

When I have these kind of questions, the guys that work down at the local co-op know damn near everyone around.

4 bills a day sounds about right for a rental these's days, breaks down to $50/hr with you running it; depending on how hard you run it, if you run it steady like, you most likely will come out far ahead than hiring out to clear and pile.

the way I always rented equipment was reserved it several weeks in advance for pickup on friday evening with a return on monday morning, that way I had all day saturday and sunday to use up the 8hrs worth of rental time.

don't know what the going rate for a dozer is these's day, but the last one I hired out ran $100/hour, it was much cheaper to rent and run it myself, that ran $350/8hrs use.

if it's nothing but cedars you're wanting to clear, there are several outfits that advertise in some of the electric coop books also and on the local pbs shows for cedar removal, can't remember if they charge, or if they do it for trees to make into mulch.

I want the stumps out of the ground instead of cut flush so a dozer is better. I thought about the week end deal and I might do that yet. But first I'm gonna see what the dozer guy gets done. I'm gonna start after the first of the year.
It's gonna run me $85 an hour for the dozer. I've only got about 8 hours work so I'll see how it looks after he's done.

sure wish I could bring my small dozer over

It would only take 5 mins to clear it with the small D11 dozer I run

I have never run one smaller than a D10

I've got a section where we can shoot 1000 yards.
It's over a wheat field. We just need to set up some steel targets.
The owner of the property works in the oil patch and he's looking for some plate steel to make some targets for him and me. He's getting very interested in doing some long range shooting.
I'm hoping we get it set up in the spring.
