I saw a S&W revolver that I fell in love with today.  The model 49.  It has been discontinued for years, but I had never seen one before.  It could be the ultimate carry revolver in my opinion.

You mean one like this:

If only you had caught me before I lost it in the boat accident, I would have let you shoot it.

I'm giving you a +1 for the Speed Strip and Nyclads in it Dan.

I really regret trading off my old S&W Mod. 36 several years ago.

I've got a model 36 I bought about 1969-1970, I also have a model 642, the 36 is great with its beautiful high polish blue, but the 642 aluminum frame and stainless and hammerless design is far superior for pocket carry.

Nyclads?  They still make those things?  I've got some that are over 20 years old, too old to carry for self defense, I just need to shoot them up someday.

Is that a 36 or a 49?
The thing Iove about the 49 is the fact you can cock it and shoot it single action.

If you love the 49 you'll die for the Model 38.

It's a steel 49. DA or SA.

I had a chance to buy a 38 the other day but it wasn't a +P model so I left it.
If I find a 638, I'll probably pick it up.

I do have a set of Pachmayr Lightning grips that will make a Bodyguard out of any J frame with an open hammer. I have them on a 337. The other set is setting ready for the next J frame I want to put them on.
The 337 on top has the Lightning grips on it. The grips enclose the hammer and allow it to be cocked for SA or fired DA.

I've thought about getting a revolver. I think id go with a SA/DA with the nice old hammer.
Dan, I know your a wheelgun guy, any suggestions for a good inexpensive wheelie?

(Didn't mean to hijack the thread)

Lately, I haven't seen any inexpensive revolvers. It seems like every old junker has a $300+ tag on it.
I've got a Model 10 nickel 38 Special I want to sell that is in excellent shape. I'll throw in another set of grips with it (rubber Hogues).
It's the one on the top. The T-grip is gone now so it won't come with those.

If you're interested, we can talk about it.
I like my 38s but I'm going to stick to J frames for 38 Special only. All my larger revolvers (K and N frames) will be 357 mag from now on.
I don't need any more wheel guns.

Sent you some pics. Bad thing about nickel guns, you get too much reflection when you take pics. Colors are all wrong or things are blurry, etc.
Anyway, the grips are a matching set. Those pics I sent makes one panel look much darker than the other. .
It ain't going no where any time soon if you want to look at it.

I don't really know how old those are. I got the Nyclads about 6 years or so ago. I've shot about a dozen out of the three boxes I got and they all went BOOM +P style, not boom like a regular 38 Sp.
I sealed all of them up with fingernail polish, primer and bullet, and have been carrying them for a few years now.
I should pop a few of them and see how they work.
The only ammo I ever had go bad was Winchester Silvertips and Corbons in 9mm Parabellum.
The Silvertips weren't as erratic as the Corbons though.

Federal has started making the Nyclads again, but whenver they are  in stock, they sell out quick and end up on backorder.

They are weak as hell. Anything that says Personal Defense ammo made by Federal is WEAK stuff.
Mine came in blue boxes of 50 marked +P. I think it is about 10 or more years old.
