Has anyone heard of a APX (spelling?) Home security systems? My missus told me lastnight that while I was out getting stuff to eat for dinner, a fellow came by and asked her about installing one of these systems for free, just pay a monthly fee/bill. I've never heard of APX so I was rather suspisious of it but she apparently has heard of it. She said the fella was to return lastnight but he never showed up. Anyone have experience with this company? I think the guy may have been scared off by the Marine Corps flag posted on my front porch

Lots of "alarm" companies out there. Stick with a well known company that has been around at least 10 years.
Sometimes they get the accounts and sell them to other companies. They just get recurring monthly revenue for just getting the account but provide no real monthly service after they sell your contract.
Avoid those.

A good alarm system is easy to install and really pretty inexpensive. The monitoring can be big $$$ if you dont shop around. The NRA used to have agreements for home monitering as well as USAA. USAA really is that great of a discount IMHO. The NRA's discount one was substantial IMHO.

Pretty much the best alarm system is the one you installed and only you know how to defeat.

I'm kinda leaning towards not gettin it cause our house is 100yo with a squeaky front and back door with a wood floor that cracks with enough weight and original windows. I've tickled the idea of goin with usaa for many things but ill have to look into the home security part.

I wouldn't even consider buying something like that if they are going door to door, if you want a security system find a trusted established company in the yellow pages.

I use USAA for lots of things. They even helped me get my new truck. I used their auto buyer program thing. Doesnt cost anything. Just gets you a good deal as well as helps you research all the autos available so you can make a better informed dicision and get some of the best pricing possible.

ETA - No one can touch them for my auto, renters, home insurance. And I am not talking about just a couple bux either. I am talking about several hundred bux on each one.

Here is the type of alarm system I used for 14 years:

The only thing about them is they grow old, die, and break your heart when they do.

My dogs are a pretty good alarm system as well.  They can be heard out on the street easily when they get going.   I have thought about systems as well but figured we would have too many false alarms.  Was your wife armed when she answered the door?

no she wasnt actually. But she did answer the door in a defensive manner that I taught her. We also have a lamp near the door that can double as a stainless steel club if need be.

you could always go the route I did,

get divorced and you don't have to worry anymore about having anything of value for somebody to steal because exwives are a lot like thieves, they only take the stuff you like.

Someone from APX just left my door.  Looked clean cut and everything but still told him I wasn't interested.  Had to tell him twice though.
