We went to the range today (Max and I) to shoot. It was windy but we still put some rounds down range.
We shot some handguns after we did our rifles. I've come to the conclusion that I am tired of Unique powder. I've used it for years but I'm getting tired of having it blown back in my face after shooting a handgun. I've probably got black lung after shooting in today's wind. Ndenway, I'm going to start using your recipe for those lighter 357 lead loads! |

Whatever powder Ultramax uses in it's .45-70 'Cowboy' ammo leaves about as much powder in the action as I've ever seen!
At first I thought in might be some sort of inflammable filler left in the musket after a shot. But no...it's unburned powder(this is smokeless ammo). I saved up what dumped out of the old trapdoor's action and ignited it!
I've had batches of .45 Auto from Winchester/USA that just covered you up with unburned powder...and then the next bunch would be fine.....probably using powder from the lowest bidder!

17Z, Unique just puts out lots of carbon. I was told along time ago it had graphite in it and caused barrels to last longer.
M. told me that lots of powder has graphite in it to keep it from clumping. The black smoke and soot that Unique puts out is plentiful. All the powder burns, it just burns dirty. |

According to the magical Hornady it is supposed to work as well. Seems pretty clean. i haven't shot it alot yet. i am doing that this weekend. |

Actually its not the powder that's dirty, the soot you see is from using lead bullets, its from the lube on the bullets. If you want clean burning pistol loads the solution is to used plated bullets that have no lead exposed at all, that gets rid of over 90% of your fouling and smoke. |

I was shooting enclosed base .45 Auto and it was blowing back in my face. the bullets or the gun? The powder, knucklehead. The loads I was shooting were loaded with Unique. well shit man, that's all you had to say , you typing .45auto and blowing back in your face made us think your 1911 blew up and hit you in the head, instead of it just having a weak recoil spring and getting a bit of blowback out of the chamber |
