Can't figure out why the primer feeder or press keeps turning my primers sideways.  Any clues out there?  It is a Lee progressive 1000 loader.  I have everything working right but that damn thing.

Why don't you take your wonder channel locks to it?

You just have to mess with it. If they are turning sideways, it could be the way you drop the primers in the tube. You can't do it slow, you have to line up the holding tube with the feeder tube, then pull the pin and let them drop in as fast as possible.
That should be as clear as muddy water but it probably has something to do with how you put them in.
I do know that those Lee progressives are the drizzling shits.

make sure you are cycling the press firmly and consistantly, doesn't have to real fast, but don't baby it either, just make sure you cycle it firm and consistant.

if if that don't solve the issue, and if you are using the case feeder then there's a few things you can do/check,

even though the shell plate is indexing correctly, make sure that the case feeder/slider is not jamming a case into the side of the shell plate too hard or it causes enough drag to slow the index/shell plate down on the downstroke, it allows the primer ram to raise just enough that the primer contacts/drags on the bottom of the shell plate and turns the primer on it's side soon as the cartridge slot opening comes around (you can verify this by looking at the bottom of the shell plate, it'll have a little drag ring on it in the center of the cartridge slot);

or just take the case slider and z bar off and insert cases by hand and see if anything changes while your cycling through the loading process.

if the issue persist, then take your primer slide apart, it should split right in two, carefully scrape any flashing that may be on it, clean the hell out of it, then coat the channel with a #2 pencil or dust with some powdered graphite and make sure to keep the slider full of primers from bottom to top.

those fixes worked for my presses, if they don't work on your's, then tough shit, I'm out of ideas.

ETA: to clarify a bit

Are you using the right diameter primer tubes? If you load small primers into a large feed tube, you will probably have problems. If you put large primers in a small feed tube, you'll have alot more problems.

Sounds like the primer feed mechanism on my Lee Loadmaster progressive press. Ain't worth a damn.

How did you fix the problem?

Gave the entire shitteree to my son in law along with a Lyman 'Spartan' press. If he ever gets it working worth a shit...I'll let you know.

If it's like the Loadmaster...there is too much 'space' for the primers in the little round primercontainer/feed doohicky. Some primers will work ok, and others wont. I had less issues with the small primer feed than the large primer feed.

If it's a plastic, round container Lee primer system....might try making a thin plastic shim for the primers to sit on in the container...but this brings on problems of its own.....may help or hinder.

I had better luck just running the press slow and deliberatly.....fixing the primer issues as they cropped up.....the Lee Loadmaster press is a huge circle-jerk to use, and I'm not sure just how your model Lee press compares to that 'Rube-Goldberg' device.

I just use a simple single-stage press anymore, and buy my .223, 9mm, 7.62x39 if I'm going to burn a quanity plinking. I own a lot of oddball obsolete calibers, and work more on that ammo than the common stuff.

Just keep messing with it until it finds the sweet spot––––just like momma
