| I curious to know why barrels that are screwed into an upper at the factory are test fired but "some assembly required" barrels are not? Is it a cost issue or are some barrels plucked from the pile, screwed in and tested and pass mean the whole pile is good? I'm just tryin to wrap my mind around it. |

| Well I mainly ask because little dummy me ordered a 16" M4 style barrel assembly then a few days later I learned they don't test fire the ones they sell as a stand alone assembly. I got my barrel today but I can't instal it until next weekend at a buddies house. With that said, is there any kind of procedure that should be done to test the barrel to verify it can handle the stresses and pressures, or just take it out and shoot it? |
| So did they possibly mismark it, cause I located the caliber stamp on the underside of the barrel (barely stamped) and it reads DPMS CAL 5.56 1-9. Sorry to sound like an idiot cause I've heard some folks say their barrels come mismarked as 5.56 but turn out to be .223. The first round I put through it is gonna be .223 either way so that wouldn't be an issue, just be kinda irritating if they mismarked the barrel. |

Thats that. If it says 5.56 then either will work fine. If its dedicated to .223rem then dont try to slam a 5.56rd home in the chamber. Even if there is enough slop in there for a lockup decient enough so that when you drop the hammer it fires its still not a 5.56 spec barrel. I have on occasion seen dumber things though. I have a friend who damn near blew up an AK in his face when he tried to force and fire a 7.62x39 round in a 5.45 gun. Yeah it almost fit but the devistation would have been extreme. Honestly more than half of the AR shooters dont even understand the difference between the two. http://ammo.ar15.com/ammo/ |
