.....NO KIDDING? I knocked off early yesterday....and went and shot my Cetme and A2 rifle in the extreme heat.

I fired exactly 60 rounds through the Cetme slow fire, and it was so hot I could hang onto the damn thing no longer! The heat radiating through the wooden handguard was unbearable. Touching the front metal was out of the question! Even the charging handle was way too hot for comfort.

I abandoned the Cetme on the ground with the mag removed and bolt open to cool off, then started blazing away with the AR hbar rifle. The AR's handguards handling the 112 degree heat much better, I managed to burn up about 100 shots off-hand slowfire before deciding to let it cool off. The AR was extremely hot, however the handguards protected me fine(unlike the Spanish wood).

Then went to pick the Cetme back up.....SHITFIREHELLDAMN!!!!!.........Jumping Jehosephat! Laying in the sun with the breech open didn't cool off the Cetme one damn bit! (I'm the dumb-ass)

I'm going to have to alter my shooting schedule to early morning/evening, or start bringing welding gloves along if this heat keeps up.

When a bunch of us started building AKs three or four summers ago, we would go out and mag dump 4 or 5 mags to test out our builds. Them friggin' forearms got hot enough to fry a ducks ass flying overhead.
Shooting with gloves on sometimes is the smart thing to do.
When I shoot a semi-auto nowadays, I never pop more than three rounds in a row when it's hot summer time.
It's a whole lot easier on your hands and barrel throat.

Son and I went to the canyon again this afternoon. Set up and fired some groups from the AR....determined that a mounted bipod was hurting the accuracy.

Using a rest and sandbag(removed bipod) and Federal 55gr ball......got my sub moa accuracy!!! Got some more than moa groups too...but enough small ones to satisfy me my cheap A2 hbar is a for sure good shooter.

Think my bipod has been killing my accuracy all along. A buddy about had me talked into free-floating the thing, but I think I'll let it alone now.

Fired my old High Standard HD Military .22 pistol some. Beautiful pistol, but the trigger pull is so light.....I'm scared something is wrong with it so I rarely take it out.

Fired a few shots from my cute little Ruger Bearcat and called it a well done deal. I was well done.....son was well done....truck thermometer claimed 120 degrees farenheit!

Now be "Bud time"

My first FAL came with steel handguards.  Nuff said.

got the handguard on my polish sf smoking hot a time or two

I was shooting my vaquero 45 this afternoon, it got pretty damn warm to hold onto after 24 rounds.

I use a 250 gr lead and 10.0 gr of Unique in my Vaquero 45. On days like today, a few rounds and it gets hotter than f*cked duck.
Pressure rises tremendously on cartridges in this heat.

Wool glove liners do a pretty good job of insulating your forehand and won't melt to boot.

Wrapping the forearm with burlap looks  tacticool and does insulate some.
My son has done it on a bolt in real cold weather after getting an ice burn on a hand off of a barrel.
He says it works great.

I think I would just refrain from shooting in the extreme heat unless I was forced to.

No doubt the Cetme is not suited to extreme hot climate shooting without a dunk tank to cool it off!

Wouldn't be shooting in the heat, except I've been too busy to get much trigger time the last few months. I got time now, and will shoot in the heat.

What the heck, I work in the heat, I can play in the heat too. Guess I need an ice chest to keep the drinks and ammo cool.
