| I just got a shiny new glock 17. I am looking for a good holster. I have been thinking about a Blackhawk Serpa stage 2 with the finger release. It will not be a service holster. It will be used to keep my glock in and practice at the range with. Is this over kill? I Have always used Uncle Mikes Ambi's in the past, but would like something more modern with a little user safety in mind. Well how about it? Good choice or overkill? All opinions will be considered. Cheers. |

Comp Tac holsters....good stuff! www.comp-tac.com/ Glock on the other hand....

Congratulations! In spite of all the Glock haters, you have chosen to arm yourself with one of the most widely used, most reliable, and most durable military and law enforcement duty handguns known to man. The Blackhawk is a nice holster. I am not partial to a retaining device on a range holster, but this is preference. I have a few holsters for my Glocks and the one that most often goes to the range with me is a simple Uncle Mikes universal nylon holster, unless I am practicing CCW draws, in which case I use my Don Hume leather IWB. I would suggest getting a good belt and going to the gun shop and trying some on, or trying some that belong to people you know. You will more than likely end up with a pile of holsters like a lot of people I know (myself included). Good Luck. |
That is good sound advice. I may just give that a shot. Thanks for the help. AND for you Glock haters out there. Well..... Your just jealous that there is a tough product that you can use and abuse without fear. It won't fall apart on you, or need re-blued in a couple of years. AND most importantly seems to retain some resale value. This is my second one and I like them alot. Thanks for your opinions though. Keep them coming. |
| I just bought the Blackhawk Serpa you are talking about for my Sig P226 and love it especially since I found it on EE for about 1/2 the price as a new one and it was hardly even used. Dude that had it got into dire straights and had to sell his pistol so he didnt need the holster. I use this holster for conceal and carry and it came with both paddle and belt rig. The holster is a very smooth draw and the retention device is extremely user friendly. The release button is in a very natural position for your finger to be when drawing. Absoloutely my favorite holster ever, I have always used fobus which are good too but I deffinetly prefer my Serpa. And as for Glocks? not a damned thing wrong with them carried one for over 10 years with 0 malfunctions or issues. I had just always loved Sig's and couldnt afford one until recently. |
Thanks for the input. I am going shopping today. I am taking the weapon and a belt and I am going to try them on for size. I'll keep all advice in mind. You guys are alright. Cheers. |
I don't need one. ORDINARY citizens need them, not us super tough guys ETA CM= Continued the mission, but said using the military phonetic alphabet, charlie mike. |
You sound like a glock commercial. How much is gaston paying you? ![]() ![]() |
I like MY firearms to have been designed within the last 100 years
|
Who in the hell do you think you are? Coming into my perfectly good glock bashing thread and singing your kumbaya? I had a glock in my safe last year, I opened it one day to go shooting and one of my Kimbers had beat that glock into thousands of little pieces! What a horrible waste. I mean the actual nerve of that glock, to chip the grip on my Kimber like that!![]() |

Give that lowlife dirty Glock!!!!!! I'll give it what for!!!! |
Oh crap thats some funny stuff right there! |
Alright gentlemen.... This is starting to get ugly. All you glock bashers better start playing nice. You don't want to get me started on those good for nothing 1911's. I can tell you stories about the hunks-o-junk they made me carry in the Navy. I wouldn't used those turds for a sinker much less personal defense.

If you really want to settle this argument, you can do it here. ISHOT1000 I'll be there with my Commander. |

The damn Glocks aren't worth having. So all you guys that have Glocks, especially a nice Glock 19 with very little use, complete with box and extra mags, All you have to is pay me for the fuel I use coming to get them. This is another public service announcement brought to you by danc46! |
this isn't a bash on the 9mil, because with good hollow points it's a formnable round that most people can shoot accurately; a 45acp is just as accurate outta of a 1911, but it takes a lot more practice to master than most people are willing to put into it. so to get back on subject, what is this severe bullet drop your speaking of when you speak of the 45acp? a standard 230FMJ only has a couple more inches of drop than a standard 9mil 124fmj at 100yards, the 45acp 200gr+p loads are at right about 4.5" drop at a 100yards when fired out of a 5" barrel, the 230gr+p are a couple more than that; a good 9mil 124grHP has approx 4" drop at 100yards. granted the GI 1911 is heavy when compaired to poly frame, but heavy is good sometimes, for example, should you ever shoot one empty, you can use it for a club, and the GI models don't have good sights, but put a set of novak combats on and your set, plus a 1911 generally has a pretty Goddamned decent trigger pull right out of the box, and the higher grade you go, the better the triggers get, also you don't have to buy a top of the line model either to have a good trigger, you can buy a trigger kit that's tunable for everything but treble and bass. now saying all that above, even though I own a 1911 that I like very much, I carry an XD, because loaded with 12rnd it's still lighter than my 1911 loaded with 8rnds, and the way I shoot, I probably need those extra 4 rounds |
| Well.... Nden I guess I stand corrected. However, I still prefer the lighter 9mil round for many reasons. First is the lesser amount of recoil you have to overcome to re-acquire your target. Second is the overall weight of the weapon (which you pointed out earlier). Third is the extra amount of rounds... 17 compared to 8 or 11. Which you also pointed out earlier. Give me a glock and make it a 9mil please. 1911 owners I stand corrected. Cheers. |

I enjoy a "feather ruffling".... This has been one of the more fun topics we've had in awhile. Good natured "razzing" is a good time had by all. The guys;(and gals), on this forum seem to be darn decent folks. Just because some of them don't have the good sense to admit that glocks are the best weapons out there doe NOT make them bad bad people!!!!! |
Sorry, my being a smart ass doesn't translate well on the intarweb. I have to say the glock talk comment was priceless... higgimw: I've got a Serpa 2 in both the tacti-cool drop-leg and the belt/paddle configuration for my g17. It's a rather nice holster, IMHO. |
Hey it's all good. Fun is fun. Anyhew... I was thinking about the leg drop as well. I may go ahead and get the hip paddle version though. How do like the hip/belt version compared to the leg drop? Or vice versa? |
|
I've got strangely long arms in comparison to my body length so when it is range time or out checking cattle I use the drop-leg because it is more comfortable to draw from. I use the belt holster more often for concealed carry, but most of this comes back to body structure and how and what you can hide. I'm actually looking for an IWB now for CCW. YMMV. You can actually buy the drop leg assembly and use one holster between the different methods of attachment. I started out doing this, but found I often wanted to transition between the two fairly quickly and eventually just bought a second holster to save me from unscrewing it from one method of attachment to the other. I've been contemplating getting a third and tinkering around with it to see if I can get it to still holster my 17 but with my Evo9 attached. If you pass through Ada let me know I'll let ya try out both for yourself to see how you feel about it before buying. |
Are you still going to keep that hazardous Glock? Even after I offered to take it off your hands? What's wrong with you? |
Well Dan, I guess some of us are just slow learners. We actually have to stick our hands on the hot stove before we finally figure out that we are going to get burnt. I'll take my chances with the glock. Thanks for your concern though. It's not everybody that would look out for someone else like that!!!! |
|
I will say one thing for it... It gets a bit warm under the platform in July, but not as bad as some of the other platforms I've used. I got mine from Blackhawk. Drop-Leg Platform External view with add-on mag holders. ![]() See the three screws behind the top leg strap. That is all that attaches the holster to the drop-leg platform, and to the belt|paddle. ![]() Had to toss in some scantily clad threaded G17 porn.
|
Yeah, but it won't hold the thingy that goes on the end of the threaded barrel. ![]() That's another dangerous Glock I'm willing to take care of. Well, when are you guys going to bring them to me? Especially those Glock 19s!
|
Hey is it possible to fit a silencer to a talk-ative female? You know.... One that is mad at you for buying ANOTHER gun? You could just say "Wait a minute honey..... Yell at me using this little doo-hickey." It could work. Not that I have ever been yelled at for buying ANOTHER gun mind you...... |
Have you thought about using the mattress? |
What kind of barrel is that? Lone Wolf? To actually have a holster with the "thingy" attached, call Greg Garrett at Comp-tac. He did a custom deal for me 7 or 8 years ago and I was really pleased. |
I think your describing a "ball gag", there are chicks out there that like the ball gag. |
I knew it was just a matter of time till NDENWAYs area of expertise was touched on...... |
You know the man is obviously an artist. Some choose mediums like clay, or oils, even metals of various sorts. But Nden.... well he has his own area of mastery. Subtle in-u-endo.(sp). sorry for the phonetic spelling. They say when the student is ready the master will appear. Teach us oh wise one!!!!!!! |
