I was about to buy a case of wolf .223 military classic for my AR's but my Gun dealer as well as a few others have told me NOT to use wolf ammo in AR's. My dealer said as far as the Russian stuff goes silver bear is the only stuff he would run in his. Wolf is a lot cheaper than most other ammo obviously and as the story goes you usualy get what you pay for but damn everything else is so much more exspensive. Anyone out there had much expierience with wolf in an AR? Problems? No problems? With my buyers club membership from sportsmans guide I can get 1000 rnd case of wolf MC for $227.00 wich is cheaper than most I have been seing.

Wolf works fine in most AR's, a few will choke on it, but not many, and the old wives tales about it being harmful to your weapon are BS.

It is lower power than most 223, that's probably the reason why there are a few ARs that don't work well on it, but the vast majority of them work fine.

The only special thing you need to do is to make sure you clean your chamber, the cases don't swell up and seal the chamber as well as higher powered ammo, so the chamber gets dirtier, just be sure to clean the chamber well and you won't have any problems.

There is an excellent ammo review section here on AR15.com. Check it out at www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=210

Wolf is not made in the same plant year after year. It is a company that puts the name Wolf on several different manufacturers ammo.
I'm not much on steel cased ammo but I've bought it before.
And I have seen problems from it in an AR. But it was a 9mm. I wouldn't use any steel cased ammo for a pistol round!!!!
If it functions in your AR, just do like Wingman says and keep your chamber clean.

For me at least, it shoots fine if I'm rapid firing, but if I'm doing slow fire, it will start to choke on the ammo and fail to extract it after about 40 rounds of slow fire. Huge pain in the ass, but the ammo is cheap

Wyatt, I shot it for the first time outta my AR last weekend.  That does not qualify me as an expert on the subject.  HOWEVER, my little black gun shot it just fine.  I am thinking about investing in a case of wolf myself.  I just have to find the 227.00 bucks.

It runs great in mine and always has.  I have probably shot 3-4k of wolf in my AR with no issues at all due to the ammo given its limitations.  I have had way better luck with wolf 223 then a lot of other cheap current manufactured brass.

After being arround a lot of guys with registered FAs and seeing them blast through thousands of rounds of wolf on a weekend kinda really sold me on using it.  I mean if there are guys who have a $16,000 gun with tens of thousands round count with wolf ammo tells me something.

Well...I'm going to make a very generous offer, if anybody is worried about Wolf in 223. buy a case, then send it to me for testing, shouldn't take more than 980 rounds to find out if its any good or not, and I will gladly return the remaining ammo after I'm finished!
Hey!  I said it was generous, I just didn't mention who it was generous to!

man that stuff does wear your gun out, if you shoot enough of it;

I've fired close to 30k of the stuff through my ARs, all of it the old laquer coated stuff too, put most of it through my bushmaster A2, the only things I've had to replace on it is the gas rings, extractor spring, buffer spring, disconnect and hammer when they wore out,

only AR that's had trouble with it was my hbar stainless barrel, it's had a couple stick in the chamber after I did several 5 mag dumps and left one in the chamber, I'm assuming the laquer melted and stuck the case to the chamber walls after it cooled.

other than that, if your rifle won't run on it, then you need to chunk them colts in the back of my truck, then go out and buy a real rifle

Hope you like to clean your bolt carrier with a jack hammer .

clean ups not bad after shooting wolf, shoot some clp on the carrier/bolt before shooting and again afterward and it'll be ready to brush off by the time you get to the house,

if your like me and only clean after a k or two, then you gotta shoot some  kroil on it, let it set overnight and the next day the carbon will brush right off.

Wolf is very dirty but if you don't mind a cleaning your your rifle it not a issue. uses a good camber brush and clean the carbon build up in the back of the carrier were your you bolt is. I have shoot 10k worth of wolf at least never hurt my ar's. Red goat from  Texas run it in his M16 100% of the time. I would never use wolk for Self defence or war in a AR but is fine for the sand pit I start to see most ar's that run wolf start to shut down around 1000 rounds. when you shot it you will see why

Ok your scaring me Define shut down after 1000 rounds? Is this meaning in a day because it needs to be cleaned? Or are you saying lights out need another AR. And the 1000 for $227 is sportsmans guide deal if your a buyers club member. And they also have a 4 pay plan for members they take the first 1/4 + shipping and then bill you each month for the rest kinda like a layaway but you get your shit while your paying for it.

after 1000rds of wolf you are going to have clean it for it to keep running
