FYI, the OKC Gun Club has $154,000 budgeted for 2007 with $211,000 in reserves.  They  carried over $17000 from the 2006 budget. There are approximately 1500 members.
Those figures were mentioned tonight at the OKC Gun Club officers' meeting. Somehow, the Archery Division and Blackpowder Division were left out of the budget. The Blackpowder Division only asked for $1000.

So what are the plans?

And 1500 members!  That's quite a bit.  Just two years ago when I joined they said they only had 1100.  No wonder everytime I go it's packed now and I wind up picking up trash/brass/EVERY single target on the sillouhette range.  I'll probably get slammed for saying that and sound like some of the snobs I've slammed in the past but if they keep letting more people in then what's the point?

I think they are anticipating some large legal expenses in the near future and are gathering financial strength by taking in more members. That is just my guess.
And what do you mean snobs? Surely not at the OKC Gun Club!

Has someone sued yet?  Probably some yuppie arse who bought a home near our gunrange and now believes he has the right to sue the club in order to shut it down?  That's like the dumbasses who move next to an airport and complain about the noise.

I'm actually surprised that a whole $1000 might go into the Blackpowder range.  It depresses me greatly what that range is used for relative to everything it could be used for.  You've basically got a 100 yard square range that you could do all kinds of stuff with.  Only negative is the berm is a little low, but a few hours with some earthmoving equipment and that's fixed.  As it is the only thing I've ever seen that area used for was when the Boy Scouts came in and set up camp for a weekend and the Women's Fun Shoot once a year.

I didn't even know there was a blackpowder range!  Where the hell is it?

Right next to the Cowboy Ranges off of Hiawassee.  As you're driving towards the Cowboy Ranges swing along to the left, round the corner and the blackpowder range is on your right.  FWIW if you're following the most current rules you can only shoot .22s and blackpowder stuff there.

Also since you didn't know about the Blackpowder range, you probably also didn't know that if you proceed past that range and round the corner to the right, there's one of what I'll call a hand operated clay pigeon flinger set on a post and a range for shooting the clay pigeons it flings.  I'm sure that's not the correct term for it, but I'm not a shotgun guy.

Where we shot your AK pistol is the CAS and IPSC area. Instead of turning right off of Hiwassee into the property, turn south and you'll come into the Blackpowder range.
It's a nice bench area. I taught my son to shoot blackpowder and handguns there because of the non existant crowds.

Shit its never crowded at my range. Mainly because I shoot on my own property. Don't much care for all the rules and assholes at the club ranges (even though I do belong to SCRAP).

I have property to shoot on too but it is hard to duplicate the facilities to shoot at that OKC Gun Club has. There are assholes in every club. Me being one of them. But when I go to shoot, I'll help anyone who needs help, shoot the breeze with anyone who wants to talk about guns, etc. It's the assholes who think they are Kings and everyone else are peons who are not supposed to inconvenience their royal asses when they are at the range. Or think they are most important members there.
There are some very good people at the OKC Gun Club. But there are some royal assholes too.
