Well I got back from the Panhandle yesterday, and will be heading back tomorrow (my son had a program). My first couple days, I saw many deer. More bucks than does, if you can belive that! Most of the bucks were small 6 month to 2.5 year old deer. I did see a mature 10 point (smart sucker too). He held in grass while I walked within 100 yards of him. I spotted him at 175 yds. behind me. I had a good rest, but blew the shot (I guess buck fever can even happen to hunter w/ several trophies under his belt). I also saw a herd of 10 mulies. One single buck with them, not that big either. I probably saw 40 deer in the day in a half I was there, so the 4 days I'm going should be good. BTW: The rut is over there, as I saw a few bachelor groups, as well as several lonely does. |
