Visiting my son in Richmond and thinking about heading over to the area ... wondering about the rooms and the golf courses.

Decent place to stay and play?

One of the courses (Devil's Knob in the mountains) is in the 70's !  Beats our 95 degree, humid days!

I havent stayed there myself but I live 45 min away. People around here rave about the course and there are nice places up there to stay. I'm not a skier nor golfer so I just never really had the need to go.  Now at the bottom of the mountain in Nellysford is where you will find multiple breweries and wineries. Devils Backbone, Wild Wolf, Bold Rock are all there.

The golf course is at 3,8XX' ASL, so it's quite cooler than any other course in the state.  The hottest days I'm told are around 85F.   I mostly hear about activities along Rt 151 ( Alcohol Ally) where there is lots of fine beverage and food. The Blue Ridge Parkway is also a nice drive.

Sorry for the cheap potato pic, but this was last summer in the Shenandoah Valley. I forget the course - but should be typical of the area. Did some AP Trail hiking and general sight seeing.

You won't find this view on any course in Florida.

It was massenhutt or something like that. Nice place. We stayed a week. Indoor pool, bar and such. They do tube rides down the creek as well.

You are, of course, correct. I can't say enough great things about the people, landscape, out door activities and such that I enjoyed up there. I can't stand the cold weather and snow or that area would be on my list of places to retire to......It will be close enough to drive over and visit from where I'll be though!

They also have an indoor water park, kinda like a smaller version of Great Wolf Lodge and a lot cheaper. We hit that up during the winter months.
