Friend gave me a flyer and I went to the website. Take a look... seems they'll be at the Fredricksburg show this weekend link

We are residents of the Rappahannock region, the counties surrounding Fredericksburg, Virginia.  We are veterans, reservists, law enforcement, fire fighters as well as others who are willing to take a stand.  We want our organization to never be called for its intended purpose, but stand ready to respond if ever it is ever needed.

We love Virginia and the United States.  We want our liberties and freedoms preserved and believe that the best government is the one that is least involved in our lives.  We do not seek to tell others how to live and we will not tolerate others telling us how to live.  We believe in Freedom

Best advice is to stay far away from self-appointed "militia" groups. Joining is a good way to put yourself on law enforcement radar.

Stay away from their table if you like taking commercial flights, are currently serving in the military, have any job, and/or appreciate the liberties we do still have.  Honestly, they come across much more intelligently and professional than most groups. They will still be lumped in with the crazies, neo-nazis and other filth. STAY AWAY.

Had a guy give me their card while shopping in Fredericksburg.

I can't see any good coming from it.  They do however seem very professional.

That sounds all well and good but numerous references to combat and soldier?  Hmm, serious doubts about that stuff, if they were more of a civil service group, enjoy have fun.  They sound like they're starting a private military and that = bad juju.

If the little tank in by the OP's avatar is for active duty military, membership in organization that is probably going to kill your security clearance.  Remember that as Hatchet Man Hagel is going to be cutting the armed forces very soon and they're going to go for the low hanging fruit first...

Bingo.  Anyone who has ever filled out an SF86 (or related) knows about those questions regarding, "Have you ever been a member of...".  Clownshoes outfits like this are what they mean.

Did OP say he was a member or advocating it? Nope. OP is also not "active duty military". Just posting for consumption

OP also knows what kills one's security clearance.

Except the question is "have you ever been a part of an organization that called for the violent overthrow of the US government?"

Its a question of interpretation as to 29.5.  That said, they are now sending the gumshoes out for Secret level clearance investigations and I'd hate to get caught in a battle of semantics with the contract equivalent of a GS6.  I'm clearly not telling you what to do, just keep it in mind and be aware that the RIF is coming.  The military writ-large has done a terrible job of evaluating its ranks in the last 10+ years and when the Hagel swings the axe, those who get cut will get cut not based on lack of merit but rather because they have the easy to quantify issues such as poor PT, tattoos, criminal background issues and/or security clearance problems.

ETA:  Missed your direct reply to me.  Keeping the above as my generalized warning to anyone else who may see it...

Their Founder claims the following from their web site:

" Patrick Steininger has spent 23 years in the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve and has attained the rank of LtCol flying Cobra Attack Helicopters.  He served in Desert Storm and 2 tours in the war in Iraq and was decorated for his service.

His personal decorations include Distinguished Flying Cross with "v", Individual Air Medal with "v", and Navy Commendation Medal with "v". "

According to the DFC Society, he is not on the Honor Roll http://www.dfcsociety.net/

Navy and Marine Corps have more awards where the V device can be authorized.  Further, the criteria is slightly different than that which gets you a V device in the Army.  The certificate authorizing the award will have the information as to whether the "combat distinguishing device" is authorized for said marine, absent any evidence to the contrary, I'd tread lightly on that subject...

Actually, there is more than one question on the subject, and depending on the type of clearance and agency involved, it gets quite detailed.

I suspect that the Virginia Defense Force might be a more legit place for those wishing to serve the commonwealth.

They answer only to the Governor.

I find this tidbit interesting: "Our purpose is to be a line of defense for our elected officials or law enforcement as they stand up to those who would take our liberty."

My guess would be that these are the people who would be taking the aforementioned liberty.  If something were to go down, the last group of people who should be protected are the politicians that ushered in SHTF.

I AGREE WITH THE SMART PARTS ABOVE.  THE REST IS BULLSHIT.
