Rick Thompson is a key player in WV for the Second Amendment Preservation Act. If you have not take the time to do so, please call and email him. While he seems to be on our side, we still need to keep the pressure on him as well everyone one else. Feel free to copy my e-mail to him to use for yourself.
Bellow is my e-mail and his reply. My email to Speaker Thompson: Speaker Thompson, Delegates Mike Folk and Joshua Nelson have introduced the 2nd Amendment Preservation Act. This act preserves our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, as enshrined in both the United States Constitution, and the West Virginia State Constitution, Article III, Section 22. You sir, are the Speaker of the House, and you determine which Bills come up in Committee and thus to the floor for a roll call vote. You must not stand in the way of the 2nd Amendment Preservation Act, you must honor your oath of office, and we demand that the 2nd Amendment Preservation Act be put on the Committee Agenda. For if not, we will not tolerate your failure to stand up for the rights of West Virginians. You serve at the pleasure of the people of West Virginia, and you must remember that, for we shall. Thank You for your time, tmurph01 His reply: Dear Mr. tmurph01: Thank you for taking the time to contact me about the Second Amendment Preservation Act. As a life member of the NRA, avid hunter and Concealed Carry Permit holder, this issue is of paramount importance to me. While we all share in the grief experienced by families of the recent tragedies, these were tragedies caused by mad men - not law abiding, responsible gun owning citizens. I share your deep concern regarding proposals coming out of Washington that infringe on our second amendment rights while doing nothing to address the deficiencies in our mental health recording and reporting system. I support the concept of the Second Amendment Preservation Act and I have directed my staff attorneys to analyze its content and constitutionality. I want to make sure that anything we pass regarding the protection of the second amendment cannot be overturned by courts that are hostile to the rights of gun owners. I cannot overstate the importance of the need to send a strong message to Washington, that responsible gun owners in West Virginia will not tolerate ANY erosion of our rights as guaranteed by our constitution. With your permission, I will add your address to the Second Amendment mailing list I'm creating to keep interested and informed citizens like yourself up to date on legislation related to the rights of gun owners. It’s very important that elected representatives - both in Charleston and in Washington, hear from their constituents on this matter. Thank you again for being an informed, active citizen and for all your efforts to help protect the Second Amendment. Please don't hesitate to contact me regarding this issue at any time. Sincerely, Rick Thompson Speaker of the House |
