The House of Delegates voted to approve SB 1335, which ensures the privacy of CHP holders.  Here is the relevant substitution in the code:

The clerk of court may shall withhold from public disclosure the social security number applicant's name and any other information contained in a permit application in response to a request to inspect or copy any such permit application or any order issuing a concealed handgun permit, except that such social security number information shall not be withheld from any law-enforcement officer acting in the performance of his official duties.

Yay!!!

So...back to the Senate I guess.  Here is the original Bill summary:

Nondisclosure of concealed handgun permits; persons protected by certain protective orders.

Prohibits the clerk of a circuit court who issued a concealed handgun permit from disclosing any information indicating the permit was issued, including all personal identifying information contained in the protected person's permit application, for a person who is protected by a protective order that is in full force and effect who has submitted a written request for the confidentiality of such information and a certified copy of the protective order to such clerk of court until the expiration date indicated on the protective order.

So what the Senate passed and the house amended and passed are two very different things.  I wonder if this will make it back through the Senate or if it's dead for another year?

I sent an email to my normally antigun senator and he responded that he would happily support a common sense bill that protected the privacy of gun owners.

Sent an email this morning and already received a reply back.   No form letter and from his gmail account.
