Hey guys. Through talking about some issues with my ex, I got her to admit that it might be beneficial for her to take a CCW or handgun class to better understand my viewpoints. I would have to characterize her as somewhat anti-gun, as she sees no reason why anyone should have a firearm unless they are LEO, .mil, or a hunter. She also has many other misconceptions, especially when it comes to CCW.

I want to find a class that would impart upon her some useful knowledge and information about mindset to her. Difficulty would be it would have to be on the weekend, not horribly expensive, and near the Stafford/Fredericksburg area. She also wouldn't be bringing a pistol to the class since she doesn't own one. I might attend the class also (couldn't hurt), and if need be I can bring an extra for her to use.

Any leads on a good class would be appreciated, as this has been a long standing issue between us. I understand you can bring a horse to water but can't make it drink, but from then on when she asks rediculous questions I can tell her she should know the answer instead of having her turn it into a philosophical debate.

John Murphy has one coming up 8 and 9 October in Culpeper:

FPF Training

The FPF training looked nice, but I don't think I could convince to shoot 600 rounds of ammunition.

Glock, I sent her some dates for the Intro to Firearms and VA Concealed Carry classes as well as the date for the Refuse to be a Victim class in December. Is the Refuse class any good? The preview vid on the website looks like it's from the 80s, heh. I saw them showing pepper spray and what looked like tazers; would this be a good compliment to the VA CC class in regards to proper mindset?

The Refuse to be a victim class is a good class for helping to develop a proper mindset to avoiding crime and developing a personal safety strategy. It discusses a number of topcs related to crime prevention. The video is a few years old (not the 80's) but the class has been well received.

The SABRE pepper spray class would be a good option also, especially for someone not thrilled with the idea of having a firearm.

We're also going to be introducing a ladies only live fire class in the near future which she may enjoy, and we are also holding a ladies only charity shooting event on Oct. 29 for Breast Cancer Awareness. If she doesn't like guns, she may benefit from attending that and talking with other women who are into shooting and protecting themselves with a firearm. She can shoot as much or as little as she wants at the event. We're going to have some prizes and do a little live fire training. More info on that is under our "Live fire training" section.
