| Anyone else feel it? I'm near Kearneysville, WV. |
|
Quoted: When the earthquake hit, I was in a small control room at work and originally thought one of WO Grubbs cranes was driving by the limetower until I looked outside and saw nothing.Quoted: 5.9... felt it in downtown richmond... cleared out our building for 20 minutes or so.... Next is a hurricane this weekend.... fun times I tell ya... Good thing I fortified my preps when economic collapse looked likely a few weekends ago As for the hurricane, I'm pissed off about the timing. I'm stuck working shift work over the weekend instead of my usual Monday to Friday 0700 to 1530 schedule due to one of operators getting near the end of her pregnancy. So, each day I work this week, I'm bringing a few more things with me to make sure I have my preps setup between my locker and the drawer I was given in the file cabinet. Right now I'm at 5 cans of soup 7 cans of Spagetti-Os 4 cans of Vienna Sausages 1/2 a box of oatmeal small jar of peanut butter 6 cans of mixed fruit 2 containers of lemonade mix 1 sandwich maker 1 toaster The electrical cooking devices won't be an issue because we have 2 generators in out shed at work. I also have access to microwaves, a rotating hotdog cooker, a grill, and a propane torch. Next I need to remember extra clothes, my good rain gear, my second pair of redwing boots, and some reading materials. Flashlights are not an issue, I have atleast 11 in my locker. |

No dammit! And I'm totally pissed about it. I had just come out of the hole at a new high-rise I'm working on and was driving when it happened. Felt nothing. What bugs me more than not feeling it is missing the sound people are reporting they heard. Oh, the sound was something else... |

At first I thought the quarry up the road made another "cast shot" with explosives... but waaaaay longer and louder. |

I was at work, and everyone started freaking out, So I asked not one not two but three people what the fuss was about? they didn't know finally I find out it was an earthquake EVERYONE felt except us four ![]() Final Destination anyone? Thankfully everyone is ok, and this is why I prep, I mean an earthquake???? HERE??? anything can happen anywhere at anytime and this is why I keep the things on me that I need to get me to the things I have elsewhere. People think I'm paranoid but look who was calm during it all This isn't bragging, absolute 100% of this is appreciation to you all of ARFCOM, who over the years I've learned so much and use it everyday THANK YOU Who is to say things couldn't have been different or badly and either myself or my coworkers were in real harm, I could help but who could have helped me? Thank you all ![]() |
| My Dogs started freaking out about 10 seconds before I heard/felt the low rumbling which increased to the point where I thought it was a airliner that may have crashed and was sliding in Our direction. Whole house finally violently shook and it was over. As I have never been through a earthquake I went to My front door half expecting to view a crash of some sorts only to find all the neighbors outside on there front steps also. My house is located in N.Martinsburg. Told My Wife it's all part of a alien attack plan and am now hunkered down in My basement wearing a tin-foil cap with all weapons loaded and at the ready for Earthquake looters ! LOL LOL LOL ! Earthquakes makes You feel small though even in Your own home. On a side note Trac Fone never lost service ..............WVleo |
| I was at the blue ridge arsenal putting some rounds through my new handgun when it hit. I had just put up a fresh target, loaded 3 mags. I loaded up the gun and pressed out to shoot when it started shaking. Everybody started running out, the range nazi (what a douche he was) was the first out the door and didn't bother to wait for anybody. I just started shooting and emptied my 3 mags as fast as I could on the target since he had bitched me out previously for rapid fire. I figure its not every day you get to do earthquake training, overall I was happy with my shooting. Not sure what everybody was flipping out about, if I can rapid fire 3 mags and keep them all inside a 10" circle it couldn't have been THAT bad of a earthquake. |

How often do you get that kind of training on the east coast? Jeremy |

Quoted: If it matters, I store the toothpaste tub vertical balancing on the cap. It was still standing straight when I got home. This was nothing here at the house, and honestly didn't feel it at work. My toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, all knocked over, some in the sink, some on the floor (none leaked thankfully). Medicine cabinets got opened and some stuff fell out. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: This was my third earthquake. 3 in a lifetime is plenty. We can stop having them now. This was the first I actually felt. I'd rather not have the house move like that again. My first quake, I was on the 20th floor of this building....it was interesting. http://hotelsinsider.travelhero.com/graphics/propimages/56/5624-01.jpg I actually saw the sheetrock panels in the wall separating. I was in my basement. It's a scary thing to see the whole house above me moving side to side. The sound of it moving didn't help either. |

It's not a joke to the family near Richmond who is now looking for a place to stay after their chimney fell through their roof. |

Yeah, and there is a lady who lost a collectible glass collection worth a fortune because she didn't have them stored or displayed well.
But for all the hype and crap we've had to watch on the news about it, for the vast majority of it it was a non event. Hence the humor. |
