Are there any good ranges or stores in the Chesapeake area?  How far do you have to go to find a good range?

The Armory gun store is one of the better stores in the Tidewater area. It's actually in Virginia Beach, but right on the Chesapeake border. Its on Indian River Rd. All the ranges that I have provided below have gun stores co located with the range except C2. If you are military (active, retired, or reserve) the USMC Exchange in Norfolk has a gun counter.

There are a number of indoor ranges in the larger metropolitan area. There is Bob's in Norfolk, USMC range at Camp Allen (military or LEO), there is Lynnhaven Range and A&P Ranges in Virginia Beach, and for outdoor ranges there is C2 Shooting Center. The latter is a very nice range, but considered pretty pricey for the area. The link is below.

You can google the others for addresses and phone numbers.

A fairly new gun store in Chesapeake is Battlefield Guns.  There is no range associated with the shop.

I was in this place I think, (right behind Black Hawk Karate ?)....  If that is the place, what you see in the web pictures is about all he has in the store.  The kid running the place says he can get anything and that his (brother, cousin, buddy....) runs the matches at Blackwater....  I stick to the Armory, Bob's, and A&P at Lynnhaven

Saw these guys at the most recent gunshow, Davison's Discount Firearms. They are located in the Military Circle area (their address on the website is their old one according to the guy working the gunshow).

Anybody familiar with this shop? I think I'll try to stop by sometime this week.

Anyway, as mentioned already, The Armory, Bob's, and A&P are the most well known shops in the area.

UPDATE: Went by their new location with my brother today. It is located in pretty much the same shopping center as Harbor Freight tools (diagonally across the parking lot, near the Cox service center). Anyway, they were there, but the shop is not set up yet. They are in the process of moving from their old location and said that they probably won't be ready for storefront business for another couple of weeks. But, they did seem nice and helpful. Also, I happened to see that windowless PMAGs had a $12 price sticker (they had some inventory set up, just not all) which I thought was a good price...we'll see if pricing like that applies to other stuff as well.

True it is a very small shop.  But it's pretty close to me and I've stopped by there a couple of times just to see what they had.  Ammo prices seem fair, but I haven't seen anything there in bulk. They also do transfers for $25 which includes the background check fee.  I'm sure I've talked to the same guy in there and he stated that they will sell to LE (I can't remember if military is included) for 10% over cost.

The guy we talked to was friendly and treated us well.  Defiantly will be going back there once they open to look at the deals.

We also stopped at the Armory.  I didn't make any purchases, but very happy with their prices on their Magpul stuff.  CTR stocks for $75, MOE stocks for $50 and MOE hand guards for $30.

Thanks.  Is there any state land around that people can shoot on?  I know that there is a lot of urban sprawl around here...  I'm going to be a student for the next three years (possibly in Chesapeake) and affording ammo is going to be tough and forking over $300/year in range fees will be rough.

I'm sorry to say, but this place totally sucks for outdoor public ranges. There is only one, and that is C2. Gotta pay to play.

C2 is a nice place , go check it out and see for yourself , I have been a member for near 2 years now and its well worth the 300/yr , i mean I go 1 or 2 times a month for 6 hours so its well worth it. nice people work there and lots of help .  As for ammo , the armory is the best for good prices or a gun show , but betetr yet start reloading as it will save you about 66% off retail ammo.  Get a good .22lr like a svage bolt action that you can plink all day with or a ar 22 conv kit and shoot for 5$

C2 basic membership (0-100yds) = $300/year
C2 full membership (0-300yds) = $600/year

I use C2 to strictly confirm zeros on all my long guns once a month. I bring what I can handle in 45mins. With the range goin hot and cold, you really don't shoot for an hour. And I hate how my money is based on other people shooting. I go hang targets/remove targets when the range is cold and don't talk to people down range cause I know time is money. If the range is pack, and I bring my girlfriend and her sister out there, it turns from $12.50/hour to $37.50/hour because the hourly rate is per person though we're shooting one gun in one lane. I guess it's just business 101

Nonetheless, C2 is the best outdoor range in town but I  go to C2 for work and not for fun as a paying hourly customer.

I haven't shot at C2 since they jacked the prices/membership (my annual that included the 200 yard was $75).

But Carlo's post above takes the cake.  when did they start charging accompanied females?  For the decade I shot there, a paying male got to bring females for free.
