We finally got settled in the area. I have been to Woodbrook (mixed opinion) and Albemarle County Firearms on Rio (nice shop, VERY nice guys). I am joining the RRPC. I am aware of Afton Arms, but I have not been to the shop. I have heard of Albemarle Fine Arms, but I don't know their location. I need to find a good outdoor shop that has a broad selection of fishing tackle. I have located and visited the Albemarle Angler, which is excellent for fly tackle. I have also been to Blue Ridge Outdoors, and I located the REI store in Short Pump. I would appreciate any suggestions for outdoor gear, etc. that you guys may have. I have found many good places to fish, and I have two good places to hunt now as well. If there are any hunting clubs in a hundred mile radius I would be interested in that too.

Thanks!

Dominion Outdoors in Fishersville is about 20-25mins from Charlottsville (I-64W) they have a bunch of firearms and a pretty good fishing selection (rods, reels and tackle).

If your In Albemarle you may just head over to Bass Pro in Richmond.

So where have you found good fishing?

I'm east of you.  Have fished Northeast Creek Reservoir and Lake Orange.

And if youre going all the way to Bass Pro you should check out Green Top on route 1 as well

Also, you didn't ask, but go the South Street Brewery if you like beer

And I'm particular to Martin's for burgers.

+1 for ACF, was just there Friday.

welcome from Lake Monticello. Bass Pro is gonna have your largest and best selection. Im surprised that Charlottesville hasnt been able to support a nice outdoors store, and I dont include Dick's as an outdoors store.

About time you got here!

Still willing to give you a tour of RRPC if you want.

Get your application in as soon as you can to get the ball rolling.

You've been to the two local gun shops. Depending on what interests you, others are just a drive away.

There is a "local" gun show this coming weekend in Harrisonburg VA. It's a small show but you never know what you might find.

Bass Pro near Richmond is the best "got everything" fishing place - and while there, stop at Green Top - big gun shop in Ashland.

Take care,
Bob S.

Thank you all very much. As to the fishing question I have hit most of the small rivers at least once since last Summer when we sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowly started to migrate this way. I have also explored Lake Anna and Smith Mountain Lake. Additionally, I too reside at Lake Monticello now. I have also explored some of the streams in extreme western Virginia and the Jackson River for trout. I sense an AR15.com rally at a local liquid bread factory soon.  ACF is by far the nicest little shop I have been to in quite a while. PM incoming about the tour.

Welcome to the area. I'm another Fluvanna resident.

Afton Arms doesn't really have a traditional storefront,BTW. Just email Jaymie at their website if you're interested in something, or talk to him at a gunshow.

+1 for Martins Grill when you want a burger. Also +1 for Greentop great knowledgeable people and plenty of inventory for hunting, shooting, and fishing.

Yeah, I have been impressed with Mike keeping prices very FAIR at Albemarle County Firearms... His inventory grows every time I stop in...

And I must say that Woodbrook Guns, although they have little that interests me personally, was impressive when the owner, in hearing distance of everyone, adviced a guy to check out ACF and even told him where it was located. That was classy integrity...

Also, my favorite breakfast joint is Blue Grass Grill, near downtown and the railroad. 2nd St. I think... Awesome Corned Beef Hash! They are open all day now and serve breakfast all day too.... Yum!

where is Martins?

when in town (rrpc member) I usually hit Durty Nellies (great italian sub, decent beer selection) or Riverside for a burger,

and while we are on the subject,

OP, you are in reach of some of the best VA wines, Delfosse, barboursville, white hall, horton to name just a few
good wine/beer shops in the area too, winewarehouse on hydralic (IIRC) and market street vineyards, on, you guessed it, market street

On the topicof food, I do have a few have/can/will go backs: Lakeside Grill out here at the lake, Tip Top, Blue Mountain Brewery, Bavarian Chef, Aberdeen Barn, 351 (I think that is the name of the place in Scottsville), Souh Street Brewery, Bang (good martinis; try the 'joe') I dig Greenberry's turkey and eggwhite burrito for breakfast and oc course SPUDNUT. I am rather health conscious (most of the time) but clearly not all of the time. Guadalahara at Pantops gets a nod too. I can't stand El Vaquero out here at the lake

it is on the Northbound side of 29, just a little past that target plaza that's on the southbound side.  When you see Arby's, it's in the next single level taxpayer on the same side.  It's more or less across the street from CVS that's on the southbound side.  Martin's is next to the cigar shop and before the gas station.

google maps says it's about 3401 Seminole Trail, I think there's a Food Lion behind it.  I'm not all that familiar with Ch'ville yet.

Welcome neighbor - a few minutes from Lake Monticello myself (Palmyra). Try the Dogwood restaurant, not bad either. I like Lakeside Grill. For healthy, go with Panera, up by Target.

And I have found some very good deals there. I think it all comes down to attitudes on both sides of the counter.

I also think the new shop is a good thing - competition will make both work harder to make the customer happy.

Just my $.02

Take care,
Bob S.
