| Are the pistol, rifle, shotgun, blackpowder instructor courses worth the cost it takes to get them? I am not going to be holding classes on teaching these skills, but it would be nice to have that option. Any takes? |

If you wish to become an instructor then yes they are worth the time/cost. If you don't plan on teaching them, then I wouldn't. Something to remember, not all training counselors are able to teach all the classes. You will need to find one that can teach the particular class you want. |

Blackpowder can be done as home study once you have another instructor rating.
Are the courses worth it? Well they teach you the NRA's way to teach, you are already supposed to have the knowledge of the discipline going into the course. It's really more an evaluation of your ability to teach then an instructional course. If you are looking to learn how to shoot better the NRA Instructor Courses are not the place to learn. If you aren't going to teach courses I don't think they are worth it. (and I'm an instructor for Basic Pistol, Basic Rifle, Basic Shotgun, Personal Protection in the Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, and Muzzle Loading Rifle.) We just set up our instructor classes for next year at the Arlington Fairfax IWLA, Arlington Fairfax IWLA classes |
| I am planning on helping out teaching. I only had to pay for the course materials so I had a hard time passing it up. I am a LEO Firearms Instructor and thought a different perspective might be nice. I am not planning on trying to set up a course or make any money, but was wondering just how much more I might get other then the NRA side of the coin. |

Same here, never really wanted to do it as a "revenue" stream. Just want to help out family, friends and give back to body of shooters if I can.... |
