<–––––––––––––––––––– Unplanned, and rather unexpected, but here I am for a few days. Long story made short - I showed up as expected for the training the Army provides before going overseas, but they didn't have a critical document yet (despite the numerous assurances by my employer that it would be ready). So now I have to wait for next Saturday to begin it. So what does one do for a week? Fly back to Colorado on the company dime, which wouldn't happen until Tuesday at earliest? Stick around southern Georgia for a week with nothing to do? Or hop in the car and drive 12 hours and 700 miles to visit friends and family for about 5 days? To borrow from Staples... "That was easy." _MaH |

I'd use it as an opportunity for sight seeing. Use your computer to look up local stuff and enjoy!
I'd say the heck with flying anywhere anymore. Since 911 they've taken all the fun out of it. And if you're like me with metal rods and screws in you you'd get extra treatment in security. |

Good to see you today. Indeed, and unexpected and bewilderingly impressive to see what happened with you, today! This cat lost like 135lbs within the last year! I lost 20-30 - I thought I was doing good! Holy cow! _MaH Well to be fair, last 2 years 40 the first the rest in about 13 months |

And it just gets better.
Just learned that, while this side-trip was certainly unorthodox and outside of their usual protocol, the company sees no problem with it, apologizes for the delay resulting from all this, and will be paying me for these days. I'd love to spend time meeting you guys (many of you, not for the first time) but unfortunately my schedule is rather tight. Aside from time with friends and family, I need to head to the Pentagon tomorrow to get my CAC issued (now that my LOA is ready) and Wedesday I'll be making a surprise visit to someone who really needs friends and family around them. The best part is, they don't know I'm in the area. I'll be as careful as possible though - it's not a good idea to surprise someone who just came out of open-heart surgery. I am planning on being back in the area in December around Christmas, though. So I know I have obligations to meet a few of you for beers (that you owe me or, more likely, that I owe you) and shooting. My memory's not all that great, but some things you just don't forget _MaH |
