I just settled in to WVU this semester. Anybody else live in Morgantown? Looking to meet some people to shoot some guns and what not around the area. A new gun shop opened in the area as well right down the street from me, real good guy. http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Second.Amendment.Sports.And.Defense.LLC.304-381-2674 |

I got out of there in 2004. I miss that place. Party your ass off but remember, the most important thing is the degree and GPA.
Sounds like that new shop is just Marstiller's (sp) reincarnate. There's a free unmanned range in PA about 15 min from campus. If I remember correctly, take Rt. 79 north. Get off at the second exit in PA (Kirby/Garard's Fort). Go right at the intersection - it's Kirby Ft. Road, I believe. Take that for about 1.5 miles and make a sharp right. Go just over a mile and you'll see the range on your left. It's next to an old barn and has a small gravel parking lot. I know there are signs limiting what you can shoot but I've shot everything from bolt action .22lr to an auto AK. I've never seen any sort of LE or game warden there...which isn't to say that you shouldn't exercise discretion. Make sure you pick up your trash and keep the place nice. |
Thanks for the info. I didn't bring my AR since my housing lease doesn't allow guns. ![]() I'm basically looking for some like minded people to do stuff with on the weekends. I hiked Coopers Rock last weekend and that was pretty cool. If anybody wants to shoot I'd throw down for some ammo no problem. I'd like to fish and hike/camp too just trying to meet some people who like the outdoors. |

Tyler259...
Thanks for the heads up on the new shop. Definitely gonna check it out. Marstiller's sucks! Dave is crazy. I belong to Mason Dixon, send me a PM if ya want to go shoot out there sometime. I built up an AR carbine that needs sighted in, if you don't mind that chore. |

i live about 20 minutes from Morgantown, just inside PA. I'm always up for meeting new people to shoot with.
and that shop looks like Marstillers. i was there once and they didn't have anything worth while. there is another shop on 119 by the all star express. prices are high but they have gun stuff. |

http://www.morgantownguns.com/ This is the actual website. I just moved here so I don't know if its the same as Marstiller's or not. Very small shop, but looks like he will order things for you. Ammo was rather expensive (5.56, .223) but it usually is in smaller stores. Anyway the owner is a nice guy and he does transfers for 20 bucks I believe. If you guys fish, I'm looking to go soon before it gets cold but I barely know the area. |

Now that I think about it, Marstiller's is/was on Collins Ferry Rd, not Van Voorhis.
As for the fishing, there's good fishing in Deep Creek Lake. There are several local streams that are stocked with trout. You can check the WV Dept. of Game website for a stocking schedule. |

A drive down to my AO (around Elkins) you will find all kinds of fishing in the Nat. Forest. Also, the Cheat river is good fishing all along it's length. From what I read on that shop's site, this is a new outfit, just opened this spring. Started as a kitchen table operation in 2008 then got bigger....... I will definatly be looking for them at the show in Fairmont!!! Depending on what I think, I may make a trip to buy from him.... |

Deep Creek is good fishing. I've ice fished there. and in the spring/summer. i go to the Kirby range from time to time, usually nobody there. but now that rifle season will be coming in, the Fudds will be out in force, especially on nice days. but if you want to shoot, i'm up for it. supply the ammo and i can supply the guns. |

I live about 20 min from Morgantown on the outskirt of Taylor county. We all need to get together and have a shoot off Pleasent Creek would be about as central as we could get It's getting fall of the year thaough, and that range gets crazy on weekends. I normally do my shooting in the Fall on Sundays there, since you can't shoot till 1pm, if you get there early, you'll get a bench. |

I graduated from WVU in '98 We used to shoot the WMF 'sight in' range discussed above (about 20min north on I79). Back then there weren't even benches I don't think. We also used to take the .22lrs and plink at Cooper's Rock (just not around the scenic overlook |
