Okay, so I have a couple stray cats on my property, if I were to get a Hava-Heart trap set to catch one. Hypothetically, how long would I need to leave the cat in it until it dies?i Yes, I'm joking, but I'm getting tired of listening to the cat fights and I'm pretty sure it's not good for them either. |
| we have a LOAD around the town i live in. there is an old lady that comes around every night to 4 or 5 different spots to feed them. she doesnt understand that she is part of the problem. i usually give animal control a call if town PD isnt on. if town PD is on there pretty good about setting traps themselves and taking the animals to the shelter. if PD isnt on or dont have any traps available and AC doesnt show up i usually take care of them with a high powered pellet rifle or if no one is around the .22 gets used. most that have been caught had various diseases including ring worm and worse. outside of town i have several friends that have chicken houses and the cats will actually find a way in and kill the chicks. out there they are free game as well as foxes, raccoons, and possums. i try not to kill them if there are other choices but sometimes there are none. i dont risk my animals health when i abide by the leash laws and pin laws and others dont. |

I hope you were really joking about starving them.
Seriously, shoot them unless you are going to take them to a shelter. It's quick and painless. We shot many cats (and a few dogs) when I lived on a farm. Didn't like doing it, but once an animal has gone ferrule it isn't likely to be re-domesticated (especially cats). It really pisses me off that there are so many folks out there who dump their animals in the country to "live in the wild and be free" just because they don't want to take care of them. |

Get yourself a high end pellet gun. This is a Venom tuned HW77 spring air gun, with a special built Leupold VXII. It does a very nice job on our feral friends. http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp38/tejota_2008/DSC00175.jpg?t=1261605379 toes optional that is one damn sexy pellet gun. i just have a cheap ass winchester 1k FPS brake open. $99 from walmart but it does the job on squirrels and such but not as accurate as i would like. |

| I appreciate the compliments, one of these days I'll take some pics of my others. They are all springers, most are pretty decked out as well. I got into air guns really bad a while back. Just like anything, you can do some amazing stuff if you take a hobby to the extreme. |

Link doesn't work for me. |

A couple things about box traps, they do not discriminate against anything that walks in to it. You may end up trapping a raccoon or an opossum, or worst yet a skunk, any of these will go for the bait you use for a cat.
But if you do go with a box trap, do what one of the previous posters said and fill up a large garbage pail with water and drop the trap in. Make sure the trap fits all the way in before doing this. This is the quickest way to kill a trapped animal, and it is the way we use to kill nuisance animals up in NY back in my days as a nuisance wildlife trapper (aka exterminator, with a special license). And if putting them down is not your cup o tea, bring them to the animal shelter. |

Use either 110 or 220 body trap-instant or a foot trap, #1 or #2 for the bigger pest, on this one, attach it to a "float". The trap is set on top of a float and the prey falls from the float and drowns. I used these on Muskrats years ago.The 110 and #1 are good for that size animal.
Check the game laws and if a "cat" so happens to "fall in it-"it's the way it is!" |
