How is everyone in the Eastern part of the state enjoying this little storm. Hampton Roads is getting hammered. Schools are canceled, and work is closed.
Don't worry the dust covers have been popped off the Pmags |
| Working out of the house today, so all is good. The wife is here since Langley pretty much shut down today. IOW schools decided to close AFTER my eldest was already on the bus, so I may have to brave this weather to go pick him up. Meanwhile my youngest and the dog are curled up sleeping in, as should all sane creatures on such a nasty wet day. |
| The mid peninsula is getting slammed by rain. I have been patrolling the roads all morning avoiding downed trees and the numerouse powerlines. We are getting tons of 911 calls and a lot of hang-ups due to verizon's poor craftsmanship in maintaining their equipement. A few major accidents, but mostly minor ones. We are getting coastal flooding and a few soals are attempting to cross flooded roads and getting stuck. Oh what a fun day this will be... |
|
Wish I got to stay home today. It sucks out there. The JRB and the Ferry are down. Some people are getting to work after driving for 2-3 hours. My drive was OK but I'm not looking forward to going home after dark tonight. My back yard is mush and will be for at least a week. That will be fun with the dogs. |

Yea, no power this morning...which means no water (yea I know I need a generator...) in New Kent. Went to stop for coffe at the gas station down the road, they had no power....went a little further to Talleysville exit...no power. Major suck...didn't get coffee until Chester and I usually have nearly a pot full in me before leaving the house. |

Major suck...didn't get coffee until Chester and I usually have nearly a pot full in me before leaving the house. Saw one of the VA Power guys at the Fas Mart in Bottoms Bridge. He said the majority of New Kent County has no electricity along with far eastern Henrico. Thank God for our generator back up system! I did have the pleasure of cleaning out all of my gutters at 0715 this morning. I tried to look out one of the side windows and it looked like a shower spewing in front of the window. Thats when I knew there might be a slight back up in the gutter..... |
| since im probably the closet to the atlantic i can report some flooding with high tide still 2.5hours out. still at work hoping the county shuts down so i get paid extra for being here. once the water hits the fire house doors im hoping im out of here to a drier station. |

We live near Deep Creek. Our back yard is under water now the ground is saturated. I have a minor creek flowing over the shop porch slab over the walkway and down into the driveway. The creek across the street is only 18" below the roadway and it's not even high tide.
Could worse though. A half mile down the road by the train tracks it is 1 - 2' deep! I feel for the folks in that town house. I've heard that Pocquoson is all water front property now.
ETA: Good article in the Pilot. http://hamptonroads.com.nyud.net/2009/11/residents-moved-streets-flood-noreaster-bears-down They interviewed a friend of ours who lives in Old Town Portsmouth. He had to put a "NO WAKE" sign in his front yard to slow down the cars! |

Wonder how those folks out on Messick and Ridge Rd are doing? |

Power just came back on for me in norfolk after 6 hours ...im near Grandby and 64. Made me see im not prepared like i should be , had nothing but a candle , a book PBJ and water for lunch Hand over your Arfcom card now. You should have a minimum of 2 cases of MREs for such emegerencies. I keep 3 packs in my trunk just incease we loose power at work during my lunch hour. |

We are getting hammered here in Hampton!! The streets in the neighborhood are flooding over, but it should'nt reach the houses.
I did have about a third of the tree in the back yard come down. I took out the fence, my neighbors satellite dish and THE CORNER OF THE NEIGHBORS DETACHED GARAGE!!!! He is not very happy. So it looks like when it stops raining I will out back cutting a large portion of the the tree off of my neighbors garage. |
| I started the morning in Chesapeake, got one stop in, decided to punt the second since the bridges and tunnels were starting to get shut down, beat feet and got my ass home to Prince William.... not a very fun drive! Some of the waves looked to be getting pretty close to the bottom of the causeway at the Hampton tunnel, with at least five hours to go before high tide. Hope you all stay safe down there! |

Soon brother soon, I am hoping to be in CO by next summer. I just have to finish one more semester. You know that CO was listed as one of the top 10 happiest states? |

Soon brother soon, I am hoping to be in CO by next summer. I just have to finish one more semester. You know that CO was listed as one of the top 10 happiest states? You want to know why? Here's why. I wake up in the morning, get ready for the day, head off to Panera Bread for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. I then go shopping for stuff for the house at the following stores: - Lowes - Wal-Mart - Target - Petsmart - Linens & Things - Sears Pause for a lunch break at Qdoba. Resume shopping at: - Best Buy - AT&T Store - JC Penny - Babies R Us - Dick's Sporting Goods Finish shopping and do dinner at Red Robin. During the entire duration of my day: - I was never stuck in traffic - I never had a problem finding help - I never had a language-barrier problem from the person helping me - I never had an attitude problem from the person helping me - I never once detected a moment of feigned sincerity or desire to help My wife has even said that she's noticed I'm remarkably happier here then I was back in NOVA. My guess as to why? - Because people here have names like "John", "David", "Mary" and "Jessica". Not "Juan", "Julio", "Tarique", "Rosalita", and "Shaniqua" - Because people here are courteous and helpful - Because the area I'm in isn't over-saturated and over-taxed - Because these reasons make me look forward to going out instead of dreading it But, perhaps the most important reason is... BECAUSE I'M NOT CONSTANTLY SURROUNDED BY ASSHOLES Feel free to contact me if you want any advice/tips on anything. _MaH |

I live at the Oceanfront around Shadowlawn area and its not too bad, nothing my 4Runner cant handle. Had intermittent power loss flickers for a couple hours, then lost it for maybe 1.5 hours. I was the only one on my block with brightly lit windows I think. Got to use my new WT Kirkman oil lantern (works great) and finish the borscht on my camping stove (also great). VBPD was making the rounds every so often to keep an eye on things. Have a nice 2 hr delay for Bravo personnel tomorrow |

But, perhaps the most important reason is... BECAUSE I'M NOT CONSTANTLY SURROUNDED BY ASSHOLES Feel free to contact me if you want any advice/tips on anything. _MaH Ok Matt, we get it, Colorado is great...... but we are stuck here. So enjoy and hopefully we wont turn the tables on you when you are in the same weather situation. |
| Hope you guys that live right on the water don't get wet. I talked to my folks this evening (they live on the Rappahanock close to the Bay). They haven't seen their dock all day. Even at dead low tide the water was still covering the tops of the pilings. They should be seeing high tide their way about now..... |

Anyone get hit anyworse now that it is hightide? The Inlaw's drive way is under water. Some area's down here at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront are pretty well under water. Here is the Inlaw's driveway, you can tell the depth of the water by how it comes up to the edge of the signs near the road http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg210/kungfumonkey2/image001.jpg?t=1258065889 You need to call ghost hunters, seems you have some paranormal activity in that photo!
On a serious note stay safe there! |

So enjoy and hopefully we wont turn the tables on you when you are in the same weather situation. Believe me, it's not my intent to come across as gloating. There are plenty of things I will, even already do, miss about Virginia. I do, however, know that when I'm underneath several feet of global warming, many of you will laugh, laugh, laugh. And I'm fine with that I know the old dominion will weather this weather like many worse before _MaH |
same for me , was off most of the day yesterday and came on for about 30 minutes then off again . We didn't lose power. Owning a good genset actually helps prevent power losses! Murphy's law just looks for easier victims.
Our dumpster blew over twice. That's fun picking trash outta your fence. I finally weighted it down with a cinderblock. We still have two inches of standing water in the yard. But what I am REALLY bumming about is the ranges are closed. My son put in for today off almost two weeks ago so we could go to the C2 Range in Va. Beach. I even called them yesterday and they were open. No flooding. Well... they are closed today. Power's out. Nuts! I called Camp Allen Range. They are open but have 8" of standing water at the gate. And it sounded like they may may close early today anyways. So we'll just have to try another day. Dang it! This would have been my first range trip my son in three years. When he left high school he got two jobs. We hardly see him anymore. I was really looking forward to today. In the big scheme of things I know this is just whining. But I was looking forwards to an afternoon with my son. Aw well. I hope the other members here are doing well. |

Here are some more photos from the Inlaws, it has subsided by now though Same signs as before, note the car in the background. http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs095.snc3/16243_1204164836872_1611174900_534614_2985557_n.jpg Here is their backporch http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs095.snc3/16243_1203777067178_1611174900_534017_7939833_n.jpg Looks like everything has calmed down though, never lost power once through the whole ordeal. Since we both got the day off work the wife and I managed to watch the entire Extended Version of the Lord of the Rings Trilogoy in one sitting. I can't help but chuckle at the realty sign that says "waterfront" on the top. |
