ok the Kind folks here have already told me I can build a range if I have the land so:
1/ how much land do I need (all the places we are looking at are around 5 to 6 acres). 2/ any regulations to follow (100 feet from roads other houses etc). 3/ any plans? (I'm thinking as long as I can get away with, 5/6 lanes, earth filled tyres & earth berm back stop, ETR / turning type targets eventuly). 4/ any other good ideas. Nick |

Nick 1.I go to a machine gun shoot with a dealer that's on 6 acres...granted the land looks like it was "naturally" made for it but with some heavy equipment I think just about any piece of land in the size you’re looking at should be fine. 2.I think there’s regulation about firing a gun within a certain distance from an occupied dwelling, however this is from “other” sources…if you know what I mean. 3.If it were me I’d stay away from the tires, just for the simple reason that over time they will need to be replaced. Granted it might take in the hundreds of thousands of rounds but I wouldn’t want to do it. 4.If it were mine I would do the following… covered and insulated building to shoot out of in the event of inclement weather (small shed will do just fine 8x8 minimum) a.Target retrieval system b.Minimum 100 yards c.Covered and insulated building to shoot out of during inclement weather (8x8 min) d.SOLID bench for rifles e.Enough counter top to put all your stuff on and not have to move it around to get to other stuff. When I shoot I take damn near everything I have…read A LOT of stuff. That’s about it, as mentioned if you’re doing it for yourself, get everything that you wish your local range doesn’t have. |
