It seems more often than not that articles on shooting ranges have to do with one closing or some group trying to close one. That being the case, it's refreshing to report on a new range opening. Not only has Silver Eagle Group (SEG) opened a new shooting range, it's within a stone's throw of Washington, DC, in Ashburn, VA, and emphasizes self-defense and tactical training. In my years in the industry, I've been to many shooting ranges. My role as producer of Personal Defense TV has also found me at many self-defense and tactical training schools. In all that, I have yet to come across a facility quite like Silver Eagle. Envision an executive-type golf club complete with all of the amenities including lounge, pro staff, and pro shop––even a concierge to assist with almost anything you can think of. Now, rather than golf clubs and little white balls, think pistols, revolvers, even machine guns, and you have Silver Eagle. Instead of a golf pro, SEG has firearms instructors and its pro shop has guns and gear instead of fuzzy covers for your drivers. You won't find someone at SEG to re-grip your putter, but you will find an armorer and access to professional gunsmiths. And while the duffers may sip a martini at "The 19th Hole" at the end of the day, SEG has a coffee bar that also serves gourmet sandwiches. Most importantly, when it comes to trigger time, SEG combines three square ranges with a 22,000 square foot shooting scenario area all under one roof. The "scenario" area is what really tripped my trigger. It has also caught the attention of several military and law enforcement agencies for training purposes. In it, shooters train using marking rounds in modified firearms instead of with live ammunition. It has several main stations, with the flexibility to adapt each to any conceivable scenario from a rubble-strewn alley in Afghanistan to a modern nightclub. The 22,000 square-foot scenario area has several main stations, with the flexibility to adapt each to any conceivable scenario from a rubble-strewn alley in Afghanistan to a modern nightclub. Stations include a typical two-story single family home with a floor plan like you'd find at "123 Main Street, Anywhere, USA." It's complete with all the multiple wicked angles many folks have in their homes but never train to defend. On the other side of the alley (a shoot scenario alley) is another two-story structure. Its lower level is configured in the fashion of a school building with administrative offices, classrooms full of desks, hallways, bathrooms and stairs. Upstairs simulates an office environment with cubicles, meeting rooms and a break room. There is also a large bay area that accommodates training scenarios using cars, busses, or 18-wheelers, and a modular station where trainers quickly and easily move walls around to mix things up for students. Silver Eagle's square ranges are conventional with state of the art equipment. All have 10 roomy firing points, automatic target systems, and Savage Snail bullet traps rated to .50 BMG. Range 1 is 50 yards for shooters who like the added challenge of a distant handgun target, want to practice their smallbore shooting, or close-range zero a rifle. Range 2 is a 25-yard tactical range allowing 360-degree movement with the ability to set up scenarios for IDPA and similar events. Range 3 is a conventional 25-yard square range. Admittedly, membership at a level where Silver Eagle will have your car washed while you're shooting is a bit pricy, but they offer other less costly levels of membership and hourly rates that are completely in line with nearby ranges. If you're ever in the Washington, DC, area, Silver Eagle is something to add to your "must-do" list along with a tour of the National Firearms Museum in the adjacent city of Fairfax. Not just another range, Silver Eagle is a "shooting destination" well worth the side trip if for no other reason than you've never seen a shooting range like this in your life. |

anyone that thinks there's any comparison has never been to a nice golf club It's more reminiscent of a barely/cheaply built-out retail establishment, and the private areas look like the champagne room in a mid-range titty bar. |

Well, some of you know my opinion on this place and anyone who uses it. ( until different ownership is in place)
I would ban SEG, and those who contribute to it,use it,work there, or promote it, from this site altogether. Hopefully, that is clear enough for all of you, some in the last thread got confused about my views I think. |

First of all I dont really need to post my opinion in here because the thread will go that direction anyways.
+1
It seems to me that they have been advertising a lot more lately. Go figure, some of us tell them they suck, their P.R. relations suck, their political campaign contributions suck, and then they go out and advertise.
