I have several handguns coming in soon and I have a ccw. They are being sent to several different FFL holders. I know if I had them sent to the same dealer and picked them all up at once, the dealer would need to fill out a multiple handgun purchase form, which would be sent to ATF. Since they will be going to different dealers and if I pick them up within several days from each of the dealers, will I need to inform each of them that I bought the other guns? Will any of them, or all of them, need to fill out the multiple handgun purchase form? Thanks!

I BELIEVE, that the form is only required for the dealer to submit if he delivers more than 1 handgun in a 5 day period to any individual.

It has been a while since I bought one but I thought I remembered there being a question on one of the forms asking if I had purchased a handgun in the last 30 days. I could be wrong.

That's not a question anymore...

Why do you say you fill out a form for each handgun?  You can tranfer three at the same time on the same form.  You can buy nine handguns at the same time at the same dealer with only three BATF forms.  The only thing is BATF may raise their eyebrows and give you a call but it's nothing to worry about.

You are incorrect. You can transfer as many firearms on a single 4473 as you want. I believe our current record is 250 S&W M&P 9mm's on one form. If the person is picking up more firearms than fits on the form it is acceptable to create a sepperate list of the firearms and attach it to the 4473. The 250 M&P's were to a guard company, the largest single transfer I have done to an individual is 23 guns on one form.

I gather from the responses that I do not need to tell each FFL about the purchases from the other FFLs, even if all the transfers occur within a day or two? Thanks for the responses!

Yup.  Dealers can't be held accountable for someone in your situation who bought one down the street a few hours earlier.  Even if you did say something to them, they wouldn't have the Make/Model/Serial/Etc. to fill out the "Multiple" form.  Hell, if they did, doing so would be an indication to the ATF (which NEVER makes mistakes) that the firearm left from THAT store.

Five business days is the rule of thumb.  Though "business days" appears to be one of those fuzzy areas.  Is Saturday a business day if the store is open, but it's the weekend?  Is Tuesday a business day if the store is closed but it's a weekday?

If you want to stay off "ATF Radar", tough - you're on it once you fill out that 4473, and the multiple form is the responsibility of the dealer.  Though if you really want to avoid this for some reason (like compassion for the poor dealer who has to fill out all that paperwork), I'd put one week between each pick-up.  Excluding holidays, there's no way any date in there could be construed in any way as a "business day".

YMMV.

That's great info, my dealer transfers three at a time for the same transfer fee I guess so as to not require more work and get more money if its over three.

A while ago my FFL said that the form for multiple guns in single purchase goes to the DOJ.

I didn't ask him if he meant the BATF.

Any ides if these forms go to a different agency other than BATF?

I had no idea of this until I had made several multile gun purchases.  I happened to notice him filling out a form that I had not seen before and asked about it.
