What's your price range?  We've stayed in the Days Inn and in the Colonial, liked both but the Colonial was cheaper, just as nice, and closer to the heart of the beachfront.

ETA:  Looks like the Colonial's become a Best Western now.  So much for the independent places.

Stay away from the Holiday Inn Sun Spree hotel. We stayed there in December and the place was filthy!  We left after one night and went to the Courtyard (my personal favorite).

The reviews of that place bear out your experience.........it got horrible reviews. As for price range, most everything seems to be around 150-175 per night, and that's not on the beach............I would like to stay below 200 per night if possible, but want something on the beach if I can get it..........I have also looked at Sandbridge Beach as well.........is the Courtyard on the beach? If I cant get on the beach, something within a block of the ocean will be ok

Check the prices throug Orbitz.  Williamsburg online prices were running over $80, I got a reservation through Orbitz for $44. I'm not a constant traveler anymore, but deals are out there if you look.  (FWIW, the same hotel on Travelocity and Pricewhine were higher priced) Don't use EXPensEDIA.
Just my opinion and experience.

Atlantic Avenue is the road that runs along the beach, so try to limit your search to hotels on that street.

There are actually 2 Courtyards on the beach. Join the Marriott rewards club and they send emails about discounted rates.

Anytime I stay ANYWHERE, I stay at a Courtyard. I worked for them many moons ago and its a solid product. The breakfast buffet there is quite yummy!
