| Hello, I remember some one posting about a sticker they saw in Qatar... Well I've been offered a job as a security contracter for Dyncorp to go to Qatar... Is it a good place to be stationed? Do you have any tips for me? Thanks |

That was me. I've been through there a few times. I imagine those jobs get pretty dull. It's pretty damn hot there for much more of the year than here, and you're standing on a gate or in a tower. Don't know how much you can actually get into town. A few years ago, I skipped base and got a hotel. Out in the hotels, it's not too bad. Last time I was there was last month. If you can get out in town, it might not be too bad, but if you're stuck on base the whole time, you'll go nuts if you're there for any length of time. There's just not much there on post, whichever base you wind up going to. Dyncorp has a pretty nice-looking compound at one of the bases that wasn't there last time I was there. Didn't actually go into that area, but from the outside it looked pretty good. I imagine you live there and then work on that base or another. They have Chili's, Subway, BK, a couple other fast food places, a small theater, good-sized gym, barber shop, massage place/salon, internet, phones, PX, etc. DFAC isn 't too bad - about comparable to what you'd find from a contractor anywhere else in theater. Again, gets pretty damn hot and the sun is incredibly bright. Much more so than Iraq. |
I have a friend who went there on a contract to install some things at the el udeed (spelling) airbase. He said it was hot as balls and the flies will bite the hell out of you. He had to remain on base but after 7 months, he got a chance to go in to town. Alcohol is frowned upon in general, he had some, spilled a drink on someone important. A fight started and he got thrown out of the middle east and didn't get his bonus. He said that pay was great, the work was dangerous dull and dirty. Behave yourself and it might go OK. good luck. |
