Who do you all use in NoVa to do transfers.  Alternatively, if you buy them locally, what are the dealer options?  I am kind of new to this part of the business, so any "handholding" would be great.

As far as choices, I am leaning towards the Checkmate QD mount, though the thread mount is SOOO inexpensive I am tempted, because I don't NEED QD YET.  This decision is based an awful lot on price, but because the price of the can is literally 1/3 of the overall cost (threaded barrel + tax stamp = the other 2/3), I am willing to spend a couple bucks more if it makes a big difference.  Use will be VERY casual, range time, and if I happen to need to dispatch an animal (decidedly unlikely).

Thanks for all input,

Back when I lived in NoVA, I used Farrokh at Innovative Tactical for transfers and everything went very smoothly.  His contact address is Falls Church, but IIRC his office is in Chantilly.

Farrokh is a good guy and his office is in Herndon. Blue Ridge recently received their license and is doing transfers I think too. But I recommend checking out ITS first.

WOW!  Thank you for that heads up.  That office is almost closer to my house than the grocery store.  I could be in trouble here.

Let me add to the question:

What is the best route to go, transfer (i.e., what are the associated fees for transfer), or buy through one of these guys?  INnovative Tactical seems to have a couple really good deals.  They may be more expensive than the Checkmate, but they also wouldn't (I hope) involve the additional transfer fees.

Thanks,

Generally you are talking about $100 for the transfer so on a can you are better off buying from the dealer unless you find an amazing deal on-line and you factor in the $100 transfer fee...  I would highly recommend ITS and Farrokh also---he's very eager to make you happy/make the transfer easy!!!  Not to knock John Brown but last time I contacted him he seemed very busy with his real business and his transfer fee was $150....kinda of expensive if you are looking at cans.......

Shoot Farrokh an email---you won't be disappointed (the same might be true of your bank account though)

The MMSA is paying 2.35% right now.  Seems like saving doesn't pay right now, might as well play with a little bit of it.  However, the LAST thing I need is to develop an addiction that drives me to suppress the whole collection.

So if I have a few bucks to play with, and am content with the collection I have, a suppressor seems to be a good/entertaining use of a few bucks.  Anyone think I am out of my gourd?

For a supressor, I would try to find a stocking dealer.  The $ and resources spent on a transfer is just not worth the hassle.

Don't forget to check out Doug at www.SSGknives.com , He will be at the Chantilly show this weekend and he usually stocks AAC cans.

Last time I bought from Doug, I just gave him the $ for the can.  Get the receipt, and in a week or so, l received the paperwork in the mail.  After the paperwork is completed(about 6 weeks now).  you go down to Fredericksburg to pick up your can.

Shooter----your thinking is just FINE!!

BMW is correct about SSG---I was thinking of them too since everyone seems to have good luck with them...I've talked to them at Chantilly before about cans and they were happy to talk/help---just more of a drive then I wanted BUT if Doug has it in stock and sends paperwork then a ONE time drive to pick-up the can is well worth it!!

You can also check out Loudoun Guns in Leesburg.  They have several variants of .223 suppressors and also .45, 9mm  and .22 last time I was there, and their prices on suppressors seemed pretty competitive with what I've seen on the net.

I've dealt with John Brown and Doug Stockton are both class acts.  Both will lead you by the hand through transfers.  Both have daytime jobs.  Doug is more appealing for what he stocks and always does the gun shows.  John is way involved in the NFA community trying to straighten out the ATF and the Feds with the NFATCA.org

I've used BRA for title I stuff and they are great - I know the got their Class III stuff to fire, but did not know they are transfering.

Something to think about is, "does the dealer have it in stock?"  - much faster and easier.  If from another dealer going to a local dealer, there will have to be a form3 to form 3 transfer before you and your local dealer do a form4 transfer.  Hence some time there for the form 3 transfer and naturally your form4 transfer(with local LEO sign off and the feds with your $200)  What really sucks is if you are buying from another individual out of state - lots of transfers - more $$$

Two of my co-workers have used ITS. Both were very pleased with the service.

Loudoun Guns is a rip off.  Those guys need to get realistic on some of their prices.  Go there only if you want to walk away with a lubed ass feel.

I highly recommend Farrokh.  He's great people and very trustworthy.  He's also a good friend.

John Brown is good people too but he's real hard to get in touch with sometimes.  He's also got his hands full running NFATCA and dealing with BATFE so don't expect prompt responses.

Call Farrokh and tell him I sent ya.  He'll treat you right.

It is near the intersection of 28 and MacLearen Road (halfway between the Dulles Toll Road and Rt. 50).

QFT

Every time I go in there I am amazed at what there prices are on guns. I think it was 640 for G19 last time I was there.

In about 1996 Loudoun had OK prices, they had a big jump right away, and have been horrible since.  The service has dropped off quite a bit as well.

I can't say enough good things about working with Doug at SSG...  I've bought 3 cans from him and he's always had great stock, fair prices and he takes care of his customers.

Yeah I think I'll go with stockman becasuse everyone i know uses him and I know he pretty much foolproofs the process, as much as he can.  As far as loudoun guns goes?  They can go out of business for all i care.  BUT, my dad DID go up there and pick me up some 5.7 mags for 30$ each!  They had 70$ a piece on them, but my dad talked him down.  Apparently they have ALOT of them.  At 70$ a piece, its no wonder why.

i've used both its and ssg. both are prompt and helpful but i think farrokh wins the friendly award! but it's kinda weird taking possession of a can in the middle of a car dealership like you're picking up some groceries!

Doug is usually at the Chantilly gun shows so you can stop by and check out his stuff.

I've also seen Farrokh there with a few hotties handing out fliers...
