I have my CCW from Roanoke county and just moved to King George Co. I was told by roanoke county court clerks that if I move to another county I need to notify the new county's circuit court and they'll give me a new permit with my updated address.

I called the KG court and they said I don't need to update it as long as I carry an updated and valid ID with me. Does anyone know where to find the rule on this before I get thrown in jail for carrying without a valid permit?

When I moved from Roanoke County to Loudoun County, I emailed the state police.  Their response basically boiled down to "it's a state CHL, not a county one."  As long as you stay within the state, you're OK.

That's what I figured, I'm just concerned because the clerk told me "the new law" states you have 30 days to notify the county clerk about your move so they can adjust your permit. I can't find this "new law" online anywhere though.

It was a sub section to 18.2-308 but it's not longer there.

The address change section died when the lifetime permits died for lack of VSP funding to conduct the mandated backround checks.

You might want to check with the Secretary of State's office to see what their interpretation of the law is.
