Finally got my power back on, but when I booted up my PC I found the HD is toast.  So much for that high-dollar APC battery backup and surge protection.

Anyway, many of you have sent emails to me recently and they are all lost.  Please resend them, I can will get them via the webmail interface to my domain.  I'll try and get to them as soon as I can.

Sorry, for the trouble.

Steve.

Steve are you getting any power to the HD? Will it spin up but not read? I have a nifty little tool I use to try and pull data off messed up HD's.

If the "controller"(?) is bad on the hard drive, you may be able to swap it out with one from an identical hard drive, and then copy all the data off the HD.

The drive electronics appear to be fine, it looks like the drive has a few 1's or 0's out of alignment.  It attempts to boot (Linux) but fails the consistency checks.  The drive is also encrypted (tin foil hat) so pulling data off of it is not going to happen.

I've put the drive in another one of my beige boxes and I'm running SpinRite on it now, it's a 500 Gig drive so it going to take awhile but based on previous experience I should be ok after SpinRite is done, thanks for the help.

I'll update you geeks tonight, SpinRite should be done then.

I'm back up and running on a second machine, just wished I would have used MozBackUp before the storm to save my emails.
