I'm moving from Woodbridge to Centreville (near Braddock Rd and I-66), I've heard horror stories about I-66, and was wondering if anyone knows of a good alternate? I work off of gallows road. Thanks, SB |

As I'm sure you know, the best route can vary depending on the time of day, time of year, etc. so you're going to need to experiemnt a little to find what works best for you. I66 is terrible and generally to be avoided until sometime after 1000 or 1030. Route 29 and 50 get a lot of bail out traffic and can be bad, but at peak times they are still better than 66. Assuming you mean off Gallows in Tysons, 123 is the most common route although it can get busy as well during peak times as well. What you may want to try is leaving C'ville on Braddock rd then turning north either at FFx county parkway or Shirley Gate rd(?) which will get you around a large portion of 29 but get you off Braddock before it gets very bad. I have never taken Shirley Gate so I don't know if there's a backup at the light for 29 but I see other cars going that way and I know it connects through. Whenever I'm starting at a new location I spend some time at google maps or mapquest and play around looking for alternate routes to try out until I find something that works. |
