Gov - PVC LT Gov - Bolling AT - Deeds |
| I was really torn between PVC and Kilgore. I went in prepaired to write in PVC but the horde of liberal panty wastes handing out Kaine shit and bashing Bush pushed me to vote for Kilgore. There were NO republican volunteers at the polling place which is unusual but giving how piss poor the party was this year I am not surpised. |
I voted for Deeds as well, for similar reasons -- it did bother me that he voted to double the gas tax though. |
|

I think you deeds supporters might be misinformed, no offense. Here is the VCDL alert supporting McDonnell: ====================================================== Correcting the mistake in the VCDL survey results for Creigh Deeds has shifted the balance between Senator Deeds and Delegate Bob McDonnell in the race for Attorney General. 10/30/05 - VCDL-PAC Endorsement for ATTORNEY GENERALAs a result, VCDL-PAC has decided to endorse the Republican Candidate Bob McDonnell for Attorney General. Please contact the McDonnell Campaign at 757-499-2944 and offer to help out with any of the following necessary campaign tasks: -- put up a yard sign -- stuff envelopes, make telephone calls, put up signs -- man polling places -- make a financial contribution to the candidate -- call your friends and every pro-gun voter you know and urge them to vote. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Authorized by Kenneth M. Elliott, Jr., Treasurer VCDL-PAC, VA-01-042 Not authorized by any candidate or political party Sorry guys. ![]() |
To be honest I think the two candidates for AG were very good. BOTH of them. Creigh Deeds was rated as an "A" by the NRA. McDonnell was a "B+". Deeds was originally the recommended candidate of the VCDL, then there was a change on one of the survey questions, and then McDonnell got the nod. McDonnell's tact seemed to rub my "I can't vote for him meter" a little raw. So I voted for Deeds. Coin flip -- both seemed pretty good on gun rights. |
Exactly my thoughts on Deeds (and McDonnell). |
|
Couple of things: 1. It felt really good to write in PVC for gov. This is a protest vote and i think it has a real chance of making a difference in the long term for our rights. I've never felt like one vote made a dramatic difference until this one. 2. McDonnell got my vote for AG. I'm not terribly happy about what the NRA did with this endorsement. Deeds and McDonnell both have very similar records and positions on gun rights. They are both on our side. Deeds had something to do with the "Right to Hunt" act in Va and that got thim the endorement. Well, sorry, but that doesn't mean McDonnell isn't just as strong on hunting issues and it seems the NRA just went with Deeds so they could say "See, we don't just endorse Republicans." They are both pro-gun, they should have stayed out of it and simply reported their positions. In the absense of a difference on the gun issue, I will always vote Republican. |
Yeah, the VCDL endorsement swayed me on these 2 candidates with similar gun issue viewpoints. That was my toughest choice. I don't recall seeing any McDonnell advertising -- if I had, maybe he could have convinced me he didn't deserve my vote, like Kilgore did. |
|
The Republican slate, all the way. I could not vote for anyone else in good conscience, especially someone like Tim Kaine. The man has stood by during what were essentially 3 tax hikes under the failed Warner administration, and will likely support even more wealth grabbing by the state. Unfortunately, it looks like we might be stuck with him for 4 years. Thank God people can only run for one term here in VA. I may soon be setting up my tag line to say "Kaine isn't able!"... |
I got a chance to see a Deeds ad this past week. It basically said the following: - McDonnell graduated from Pat Robertson's law school - McDonnell received $36,000 in campaign contributions from Pat Robertson - McDonnell is opposed to abortion - McDonnell is opposed to stem cell research For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out why anybody would view any of these things as bad. It just means that McDonnell is a values-oriented, principled person. Until I saw the ad, I was actually on the fence of who to support for AG. Thanks to the Deeds ad, my mind was easily made up in McDonnell's favor. For once, a liberal actually made things easy for me. :) |
I can't vote this year. I fucked up and failed to apply for an absentee ballot in time. But my wife and I have had some drawn out discussions about it. Right before she left to vote today, she IM'd me and asked me how to "spell that Cleavage guy's name" again... ![]() Whether she'll do it or not, I don't know. But the fact that she was willing to listen and THINK about the issue, shows a lot. I'm proud! |

Before I visited my polling place, I attributed my feeling of ennui to cognitive dissonance resulting from Kilgore's (and the VA GOP's) belief that the NRA can somehow adequately represent the interests of Virginia's conscientious gun-owners/RKBA advocates when the NRA's focus is decidedly national and non-confrontational. By this logic, the Commonwealth does not need its own militia; that of the United States should be sufficient. The dialogue here advocating both sides of the question of registering an easily tallied, protest vote lead me to a compromise position. BTW, I strongly believe the relevant threads should be required reading for the GOP and the Dems -- as well as their candidates -- both for the information content, and because it illustrates the earnestness whereby the theme is considered by a bloc that votes as assuredly as the most ardent. I didn't compromise my belief, but I elected to not strongly advocate others following my (and many of y'all's) course of action. Rather than publicizing my stance in a manner that urged others to follow suit, e.g. by creating and posting signs, I elected not to 'evangelize.' Based on the VCDL reassessment, I cast my vote for Philip Van Cleave, the Republican, and McDonnell (recapitulating what went through my mind at the ballot box). The other votes were for Donald Duck because none of the candidates were remarkable to me, except Arlington's own Jay Frisette, who in the spirit of the Peter Principle, wants to move on to bigger and better things. I'm now no longer sure whether it was cognitive dissonance or just plain disgust that had me feeling down about this election. Pleading for indulgence, allow me to rant for a second ... Centro de Votacion?? Puhleez! Notwithstanding my (half-hearted) joking about living in Arlington, between Guatemala and Honduras, something about the idea of bilingual (Spanish/English) elections here in my country makes me see red. If a foreign born US Citizen, resident of the Commonwealth needs -- and is entitled to receive -- accommodation, then fine. Give them a brochure or a comic book containing the requisite information in a supported language (of which there can be as many as needed). This is the United States, and not Estados Unidos. If one's English fluency is such that foreign language assistance is needed, then no foreign language should be favored over any other. Spanish, Urdu, or Pashtun ... if a lawful voter can't speak English, then they should receive equivalent support and accommodation. The idea that English and Spanish merit 'equal billing' as we vote for our government would be laughable, if not so dangerous. Ask any Angeleno or other resident of Southern California what can happen when language 'equivalence' is established. |

http://tinypic.com/ff6dzr.jpg I may or may not have picked deeds simply cause I liked the movie. |
|
I spun the lucky wheel and punched the buttons, and it came up-----Philip Van Cleave. Bolling and Deeds were much easier. I'm sad that some of you that initially supported PVC backed down at the important moment, but is over and done. Whomever wins, I am sure we will survive. |
It will not be easy. Because he wasn't an "official" write-in candidate, his will be lumped in with any other write-ins until somebody actually asks to see who those write-ins were. It could be weeks. I don't know the actual process for this, but this is what the reporterette at the Times told me when she was interviewing me. |
|
Kilgore -I support him on more than guns, but don't care for his campaign style this election. Held my nose and voted. Bolling-I support him fully McDonnell -for his support for reloaders/gunshows in an attempted bill to deregulate powder possession this past session, and for his abortion stance. Given his VCDL stance and his reasoning behind not supporting the hunting/fishing amendment, I'm comfortable voting for him on 2nd amendment and "sportsman" issues. None of the candidates in the race seem to be willing to actually deliver smaller government, but I guess that's not really what the majority of folks want anymore. |
|
1. Because it is a *mediocre* law school on the best of days (ok, by VA standards it SUCKS). In a state with FOUR top tier law schools (Washington and Lee, UVa, William and Mary, George Mason) I am not voting for someone from a 3rd tier school. 2. I would have to look at how those contributions happened, but I would think that if that was a direct contribution there are some issues. I really don't care about this except that I do happen to believe in a LITTLE separation of church and state and I don't want to elect someone who is so closely tied to organized religion. 3. Abortion sucks, but to me it is between an individual and God. The science/law on this IS NOT good. 4. I think being against stem cell research is stupid. shooter |

Well, forget about CCW in ABC establishments. Look for illegal alien workforce centers on every corner. Expect to pay 10% more tax on your fuel. And give up on any chance for tax relief. And the liberals all over the USA are going to point to their gains here and NJ as a mandate for continued harrassment. It's a dark day for the Commonwealth. |

UPDATE : As of 8:40 Precincts Reporting: 1348 of 2426 (55.56%) Registered Voters: 4,451,969 Total Voting: 1,073,496 Voter Turnout: 24.11 % Candidates Party Vote Totals Percentage T M Kaine Democratic 549,457 51.18% J W Kilgore Republican 499,922 46.57% H R Potts Jr Independent 23,157 2.16% Write Ins 960 0.09% Vote Totals: 1,073,496 ========================== The only good news is that these results already most of Arlington and Fairfax counties and some of Prince William. Kaine winning in all of them. Loudoun has yet to report any results. York county is also included... it went overwelmingly for Kilgore. If you want to check on your districts, here is the link: sbe.vipnet.org/index.htm |
No one will notice the couple thousand votes for VCDL. That news will be brushed under the rug. The 20K+ votes for Potts however is meaningful... Kilgore will need to win nearly all of the remaining counties, including the VA Beach, Hampton Roads, Norfolk regions to win the state. It doesn't fair well either for the delegates, either. My intepretation is that the Democraps were successful in motivating their base and moving their operation forward... while the GOPers have remained on the side line, which tends to persuade the swing voters to vote withe liberals. Well I had enough of this. I am going to pour myself a big drink and load some mags. |
