Greetings all,

I am a long-time lurker on the "Build it Yourself" board but dont make it over here as much as I should.  As I started thinking about repairing my recent build, I thought about checking over here.  I am looking for someone in NVA area that might want to help me out one evening next week while the wife & kids are away.

I have been working on a Mega upper and a 16" gunshow special barrel.  I took it to the NRA range a few weeks ago, and I have 2 problems.

The first problem is the FSB is crooked.  It was noticible since I mounted the barrel  to the upper.  I would prefer not modifying the upper with the filed notch/peened thread method, since I may someday replace the barrel with a different one.  So, I guess I will try the leather mallet method, with an Armalite FSB replacement if the mallet fails to correct the problem.  THat is, unless someone else has a better idea.

The second problem may be ammo or feedramp related.  I fired about 30 rounds with no problems, then all of a sudden, rounds were jamming and the bolt was not closing.  The bullets were being pushed into the cases.  I checked to see if I had M4 ramps on the reciever and M-16 ramps on the barrel, but I dont think that is the case.  The problem could be bad ammo, rough feed ramps, or somehting else entirely.  The best advice I have had so far is tro try other ammo and polish the feedramps.

I was wondering if someone would be interested in meeting me at the NRA range some evening after work who might be able to help me make the adjustments and troubleshoot the issues.  That is, assuming they are open and dont mind us doing some work in their parking lot.  Anyone interested?

I could take a look at it one day on the weekend, we sometimes meet on Sundays and trust me when I say that more rifles have been built in that very parking lot then anyone knows about.

On line TS is not my forte and we could fire it and try some different rounds thru it.

Thanks for the offer.  I plan to be at the beach the next two weekends.  We put down a deposit on a beach week before I knew training for my new job would keep me busy for most workweeks this summer.  We have plans for the wife to take the kids and her parents up for the week, and I will join them for both weekends.  That is why I was initially thinking of doing it next week while I am home by myself.

If things work out so I don't try to fix it on an evening next week, I may try to catch up to you at the NRA range the weekend of  July 23/24.  My training then takes me out of town the following weekend, however.

I appreciate the offer.  Can I check back in with you shortly before the 24th to see if you will be going to the NRA range?

Whoops, just re-read your sig line.  Looks like you might be busy the 23/24th?  I might have to wait even longer...

You could always bring your stuff to the shoot. There are always plenty of members at the shoots who are willing to help a fellow ARFCOMer out.

I would love to come, but my wife dosnt share my enthusiasm for shooting.  We have two little ones, and I am lucky if I can find an hour every month or two to go to the range.  She works a very full schedule, and puts in even more hours than I do.  Besides, I occasionally get time to shoot for work, so I cant really push her too much...  Perhaps in a year or two when the kids become less dependant and time consuming...

Don't count on it being just a year or two.

I have 2 rifles that need attended to and soon, all of the work will be done at the NRA range so let me see what I can do.
