After you got all the fingerprinting and paperwork done, how long was it until your CHP showed up at the front door. I know I have to wait "up to" 45 days and its only been 33, but damnit I'm inpatient -Brad |

IIRC, it was about 6 weeks in Fairfax County – but that was several years ago. My understanding is that the 45 days refers to business, not calendar, days. I have a vague recollection of some requirement where a temporary permit is issued if the 45 days runs out. |

First CHP, Montgomery Co, VA - 19 days (IIRC) First Renewal, Montgomery Co, VA - 11 days (IIRC) Second Renewal, Prince William Co, VA - 34 buisness days. PWC had a strange problem, they seemed to think I had no driver's license (even though they used it as ID), so therefore they wouldn't issue the CHP. Then when I had my D/L renewal, they said that meant the copy of my old D/L they had was "invalid" and not proof I had a driver's license. I had to fax a copy of my new one. I also included a nasty letter. My renewal was issued a few days later. Had it not been for that problem, it probably would have come through sooner. |

2 weeks - Loudoun County ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=24&t=193023 |
It's 45 calendar days. The court must issue you a temporary license if yours is not ready in 45 days. Check out www.vcdl.org for more info. |
Better luck to you, mine still isnt here. -Brad |
No, only certain counties did away with fingerprinting. Hampton still requires it, but its silly because the FBI already has my fingerprints from when I joined the service.

same here with pwc. they said since i was born overseas (father in military) i had to prove i was an american citizen!!! i had to go to manassas and show my birth certificate, voters registration, va driver's license and my old concealed carry permit then go over to the pd for a records check. i was fucking pissed and let my county supervisor know it. then i get this cheesy ass letter from the pd saying there was an error in their process and that i didn't have to jump through all those hoops...i get the impression pwc is becoming gun unfriendly... |
Chesterfield County; where I moved to from Virgina Beach, requires prints. Kind of annoying since VB didn't require them. Thankfully, my latest renewal from VB expires Jan 09. Hopefully we can get the county to drop the requirement by then. TR |
You are required to have a valid government issued picture ID (e.g. DL) on you in conjunction with your CHP if you are carrying. BTW - My initial application in Alexandria (City of) took about 3 months if I recall. This was back when they changed the law to "shall issue." My renewal in PWC took about 2 weeks. |
Well, turns out that someone left the apartment letter off the address when they tried to mail it out to me, so it was returned. No big deal, though its probably been ready for the better part of two weeks now. Just have to pick it up tomorrow morning. I dont know if anyone cares, but thought I'd put it out there....... Happy Shooting!-Brad |
In their information summary about concealed handgun permits, the Virginia State Police inform, in part:
|
| My only experiece is with No VA...but in Arlington, FX, and Alexandria, you can pretty much expect it to take the full 45 days....they seem to do this on purpose. If it takes any longer, you should report them, as they are *required* to approve/deny you within this time period. |
Happy Shooting!
