Looks like my company will be transfering me to Viginia. It'll be in the Virginia Beach area and it'll be sometime this spring that I will be moving. I have traveled to the area but haven't never lived there. I need to get some info on what sorts of things I need to be aware of such as: State taxes, cost to register a truck--are there taxes involved, costs of living that sort of thing. So any help you guy can provide, I sure would like to hear your thoughts. Thanks!!

Great!
Currently, I live in Norfolk. If you need a realator I've got a great one. They are my landlords and they have been the absolute BEST landlords I've ever had. Be forewarned, the housing market around here is a seller's market. I've known real estate deals that fell through because the seller wouldn't submit to a housing inspection. I can't imagine buying a house without an inspection, but there are people around here that will. Oh and VA BCH just raised property taxes. The good news is if you live further west and commute to the Beach you'll be commuting against traffic. Most of the traffic is to the Naval Base or through the Downtown Tunnel in Norfolk to Portsmouth.

I do believe you have 30 days to get a VA DL. Depending on the community you have to have a city sticker, basically another tax. The good news is plates are fairly cheap, but the vehicle tax can be a killer.

AFAIK, no community in the VA BCH-Norfolk area (known as Tidewater or Hampton Roads) has any city income taxes.

If you check the tacked thread at the top of the page there are links to various ranges in the area. I'd recommend becoming a member of the Norfolk County Rifle Range or the range in Yorktown, the name escapes me.
