Ummm... I can help, but you need to narrow things down a bit.  Your question is a lot more involved than you think.  The first thing you need to do is to visit www.falfiles.com/index.

If you want the simple answer, its not the cheapest, but will get you an extremely nice FAL.  Buy a DSA receiver.  I think www.warrifles.com has a group buy at the moment with a price of $335 or so.  Get a type 1 or type 2.  They just look better.  Then, buy an STG kit from FAC.  You'll need 6 more compliance parts and you can select the combo that you like the best.

DSA sells the following:

hammer/trigger/sear combo (3 parts)
pistol grip
forend
butt stock
gas piston
charging handle
trigger housing (lower receiver)

Tools?  If you're only building one or two, don't buy tools.  Just mooch off me or somebody else that has them.  You really need a big-ass vice, barrel vice, receiver wrench, breaker bar and a big friggin' hammer.  Dremel tools are always handy as well.

Does that give you a way to get started?

thanks for advice cliffy i have looked at the STG kits in FAC but the DSA receiver may be more than i want to invest right now. Im working on a couple of AR's /AK's........ how about one of those cheaper receivers from FAC. I would like to keep it under $600 if possible .

haha But, I do have a dremel tool
                    thanks again

You can save some money with an Imbel receiver, but you will need one more US part.

would you suggest metric or inch which is easier to get mags for or which has better prices also spare parts availability.  I would also like to find a 16" bbl if possible. but I will keep on looking

Metric.  There just are not many good quality inch kits around.

Any barrel can be cut and crowned to 16".  You'll have to tinker with the gas system a bit, but its not a big deal.

"Moses" on the flafiles has cut 3 different barrels for me in the past.  never more than 2 weeks turnaround. (2 of the three took a week)

I think its $40 for a cut and rethread.  I can send you his email if your interested.

Oh, and moses always "opens" the gas port the the correct size free with every cut.  I think he went a little crazy on my para though, I could peg the ISS with brass with that thing.........guess I cant say it dosent work.

Hey fellas,

If you don't mind, i might add my barrel to the list for moses to cut down.  I have a Springfield SAR-48 and i'm waiting for my para lower to come in from DSA.  If Moses could cut my barrel down to 16 inches, that would be outstanding.

If there is an FAL build anytime, I'd love to hear about it. I don't have a kit yet, but an FAL is on my
'want list' and I'd love to learn more about them.
