Anyone in the North or North Central IL that machines their own and would like to do a get-together and machine some? I'll be getting one back from engraving to clone my issued M4 and want to get it machined so I can then send it off for anodizing. I don't have the jigs and the hand router method seems sketch.

I'm curious, where are you planning to have the anodizing done?

Don't know yet. Haven't thought that far ahead. Just concerned with getting it hogged out right now.

Why not just Cerakote or Duracoat?

I'm building a clone of my issued M4 so it's going to be anodized.

Some places sell 80%ers that are already anodized.

Obviously the inside pocket wouldn't be after you machine it though.

I'd still end up with the same amount of work anyway, I'd still have to get it anodized again.

Interested. It's hard to find people that anodize AR stuff and it's usually expensive.

I was also told that it makes a difference what alloy it is.

FYI, it's illegal for another person to finish your lower for you unless they are a licensed builder and the lower is serialized.  Years ago there was a business that hosted build parties.  You bring in your lower, they load it into the cnc machine, you push start.  They were charged with manufacturing without a license.

I know this. I'm just looking for someone that has a mill that will let me use it and give me tips on how to run one (I love precision machining).
