Hi everyone, I'll be making a move to the Moline/Monmouth area of IL in a few months and will need to start my search for a job soon. Are there any websites to look at? Stay away from?

Here in TX we have the Texas Workforce Commission that lists available jobs weekly, do y'all have anything like that?

For state jobs http://work.illinois.gov

Of course you can also use indeed.com, glassdoor, monster, etc.

Why would you leave Texas for this state?

Edited to add, do you know what type of work you are seeking?  Maybe a site member may have some leads in your field.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the links.

My fiance lives in IL, and he's got his dream job already. I wouldn't even consider asking him to give it up. Plus, this will settle that whole "I love you more" argument.

I am really not sure what I am looking for. I've been doing something similar to project management/logistics in the telecom world the last 5 or 6 years, and before that I was an assistant manager at a local fast food restaurant.

Heh. There's no way she's giving up her mountains! She teases me with pictures weekly, the little tramp.

Monmouth is a nice area. lots of trophy bucks to be had if you can find a place to hunt. 1 hour north is Milan gun range!!! couple of big AG warehouses there with another 250,000 SF scheduled to open there in march of this year. if you are going to try food business in Illinois it would be helpful if you have your food prep and essentials certificate. good luck!

Our range is on the farm. Can't beat free!

Yeah, I saw them building something large when I was there for Christmas. I plan on looking around a bit more when I come up for a week in March.

And thanks.

Just giving your thread a bump in case any members from that area have any job ideas for you.

Your project management experience could be very good for you as it can be used on all kinds of different fields and there seems to be a lot of companies looking for project managers.

...and congrats on the fiancé!

USA Jobs for openings at the Rock Island Arsenal.

John Deere has a few locations in the area.

The first two I mentioned always seem to be looking for people in the project management/logistics field.

Well, there's always Yellow Pages. I've found it to be a much better resource than mass-applied-for internet jobs, my 2c

ETA: Stay in Texas have the fiancee move. I can't think of one thing Moline has over Texas... fishing? Snow, definitely, you'll get that.

Start an account at LinkedIn.com.

Connect to people in your line of work and your geographic region.

It's who you know that counts.

They also have a job board.

Good luck!

Sadly, the people in my current line of work that is in Illinois are all based in Chicago.

I am already on LinkedIn. I need to learn how to use it better, for sure. I didn't even know they had a job board....

Yes, LinkedIn is a great resource.  Take a look in your area to see if there are any free seminars for LinkedIn.

There are two guys here that provide free LinkedIn training.  I took a four hour seminar with them and the information they gave was priceless.

Here is their website.  http://www.whatsthatnoise.net

There is a lot to LinkedIn and it really pays to know how to use it to your advantage.  There are many companies that only list jobs through Linkedin and my wife and I have both been contacted by headhunters who found us on LinkedIn.

You mentioned some experience in telcom.  If you're looking for anything in IT, dice.com would be a good resource also.
