Hey folks, I have a question about Chicago firearm permits.
I'm a 23 year old who recently graduated from college, all of my firearms are stored at my parents house in the suburbs. I currently stay with my girlfriend in the city but want to get a place of my own to not be a freeloader. If I get a place of my own in the city, I'd like to keep my parents address as my main address/on my license. So, would I need to get a Chicago firearm permit to keep a handgun at my hypothetical apartment if my address is still a suburban address? Would it just be easier to change my main address to a chicago address and get a permit?

Side question, do you need a Chicago permit to conceal carry in Chicago?

Thanks for any help you guys might have.

The Chicago permits went away with the preemption clause in the FCCL bill.  You can have a handgun in Chicago and no permit is needed.  If you want to carry you need a CCL.

There actually is still gun registration in Chicago. But it only applies to active Chicago Police officers. No one else. And CPD is required to register not only on-duty guns but all non-duty firearms as well. Because of this, CPD still maintains their gun registration unit.
