Anyone know what happened to them? I hadn't been there for a while but stopped in today looking for some bullets. Bullet Express is gone and the place was cleaned out of any sort of reloading supplies except for a few things from Dillon. Looks like Capitol City Arms has taken over the place entirely. It also looks like I’ll be getting my reloading supplies from Graf’s or Midway from now on. It's kind of a shame as I liked Bullet Express and had given them quite a bit of business over the years.
BTW - I walked in and the guy behind the counter gave me a "WTF are you doing here" look. I guess I can't blame him as I did just come from picking up a truckload of lumber from Lowe's. I probably did smell a little like white pine and had some sawdust on me. |
| The owner of capitol city firearms owned the whole building and gave John a 30 day notice to pay his bags and leave. After YEARS of being in that building and I thought the two were friends. Hell I know they went hunting together he just basically told his friend that the business he was in was over. John has moved all his stuff to auburn to the trap range. The people running the gunshop are SHADY people and one of them is or was connected to the ATF. I see him a gunshows a lot with his undercover partner. |

Well that's interesting and is yet another example of why one must never goes into business with friends or family. This will give me even more reasons to visit Scheels and search out John's new site and toss him some business.
I occasionally stop by CCAS to look around but have never felt comfortable or welcome at that store. I have bought a few things there but nothing that I couldn't get a fair deal on (I'm willing to pay a FAIR price but won't stand for a screwing). I started limiting my visits to 3-4 times a year when I heard the owner complaining about the guys wanting him to do Internet transfers. What really got my attention was when he stated that he hated messing with them so much that he was going to start charging $50/transfer. At that point I figured that he must already have enough $$ that he surely didn't need any of mine. Since then I've discovered a few other dealers who are willing to treat a customer like they actually appreciate their business. |

$50 transfer is pure greed. Dealers must realize thier are two types of customers out there. Smart internet purchasers wou are smart shoppers and the regular crowd that is afraid, in a hurry, full of money or just to stupid to realize the other options. Don't get me wrong if they have a fair price I will buy from them. But when you have say a Colt 6920 for $1,300 you won't budge on that I can buy for $920 shipped with NO tax and pay a upstanding dealer a $20 transfer that is serious cash in my pocket saved. My threshold for buying from a dealer is usually $500 after that dealers need to realize they can be beat on price and need to fudge thier prices to reflect it. Just my opinion as I know some people will cry support your local shops. Thats all fine BUT they will not make daily payroll of just my purchases. I refuse to be fucked hard I prefer a more gentle caressing. |
| Very sorry to hear John is no longer operating there, he was a wonderful and personable gentlemen to do business with. That other outfit in there I never really have thought much about, never a very warm feeling from any of the folks, like I was inconveniencing them, hence I would never even go back in there while at the range to shoot. Very sad to hear it is closed. |
| Thats too bad. I used to shoot competition there from 2003-2007 there from time to time. Actually it was the place I was introduced to competition. I showed up looking at guns on a wednesday after work and asked if i wanted to compete. One of the competitors gave me one of his guns, gear and ammo after learning I was MIL and said have at it. Turned into an addiction over night. Great people that brought me in and taught me after just meeting me. |

little that is portrayed here is what happened to Bullet Express, Capitol City Arms, et al. Do tell. This statement means nothing without something to back it up. I agree. That was my point. The statements made here prior to my post mean nothing without back up. |

The statements made here prior to my post mean nothing without back up. Okay, but now I’m really confused. You alluded to knowing what really happened between Bullet Express and Capitol City Arms Supply but did not offer any additional information. What gives? Do you know the truth and are sworn to secrecy or are you simply stirring the pot? I can tell y’all that my account of CCAS raising their transfer fee and why is absolutely true because I heard it with my own ears. Of course I can’t provide a link or other documentation to back that up (how could I?) so y’all are just going to have to take my word for it. If someone judges that statement to be BS then I really couldn’t care less. What they choose to do with their $$ is none of my business. |

From what I know John had a specified lease at a certain monthly rate for rent. After the term was up the land owner was going to raise the rent per the original agreement. John decided that he didn't want to pay more so he left. I shot there once or twice in my life, but since I belong to both the local private clubs and have farm ground never saw the need to go there. Hotter than hell in the summer and freeze your ass off in the winter. Not to mention all the lead and other crap you were breathing while shooting! |
|
I don't dispute in any way your story regarding the transfer fee. Under previous ownership, I never saw anything even remotely resembling a decent price on anything.
However, the post above me has some accurate information about what transpired to result in the bullet express exit. The respective owners of bullet express and Capitol city arms were never really on friendly terms. |

The range is now up and running. When you walk in from outside it is basically an empty room compared to what it was. However, the actual range hasn't changed.
I took a chick with me who never shot before and wanted to shoot. We shared a lane and were there for maybe 15 minutes. The bill was $20. I live in the country anyway. Best of luck to them with those rates. |

| I have no dog in this fight, but John told me directly that his lease was up, and he was told by the owner of the building it was not going to be renewed, and he had to vacate. I have done a fair amount of business with him over the years, and he and his wife are good folks, and I wish them well. I have not done any business with Capital City Arms, and will most likely will not. |
| I have read this thread several times and there are several statements that are inaccurate. Just an FYI - Dudley actually did own Capitol City Arms Supply. Steve bought him out. Of course this has nothing to do with Bullet Express. CBON15 seems to think he/she knows what really happened by doesn't. The true fact is that Bullet Express lost their lease. There was no request to increase the rent. John was given 60 days notice to vacate. End of story. Now for those of you who are interested, Bullet Express Firearms & Accessories will be opening soon in Auburn. Hopefully within the next 2 months. A new retail store and pistol and rifle berm is currently under construction. |

Steve bought Capitol City Arms and thus owned both the building and one of the businesses in it. For a time, Mr. Evans worked for Steve and DID NOT own Capitol City Arms. Steve sold Capitol City Arms and the building. New folks did not want John. What did I state previously or just now that is wrong? I am very glad to hear John will re-open. |
