| starting pay varies, each job pays different. the base salary I think if you dont work a day is 65-70. It is only higher if you work. Metra runs from Chicago to Fox lake, Antioch, Elgin University Park, and Joliet. the other trains ran by the UP and BNSF are working for Metra. We dont run to WI or IL. I work the Elgin line, and love it Most conductors start on call but its not that bad. I guess it really comes down to is is it worth it. I think so I bought a house and 2 cars since starting there and I am at year 3 1/4. |
| ridership is up, duties are throwing switches to get in and out of the yards, and setting up a train, and the big one is pushing buttons to open and close the door there are other duties but safety is number 2 and collecting tickets and money is number 1 but safety will become number 1 again once the heat dies down after being in the news about not collecting ticket, and starting is 65-70k per year and that is at 80% you get 5% every year until you are at 100%. The pension is really good and free medical and dental for you and your family for now. the union is trying to make us pay for it. the only bad thing is the union is not the best, they tend not to care about the young ( seniority) guy, that is why us younger guys stick together. It is a relative easy job and most people like it, some cant handle being on call but if you were in the military its nothing. Good luck to anyone interested. |

That doesn't sound all that bad, especially since I don't have a wife or kids. Thanks for the heads up. |
