We have changed the week of the ASC Practical Rifle from the 4th Saturday to the 3rd Saturday of every month for 2012. Please pass the word! ***The Aurora Sportsman's Club Practical Rifle shoots will be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month during 2012****
***Next Practical Rifle event will be held on Saturday 21/Jan/2012*** We will have a few stages set-up for this months shoot. More info to be posted here as the stages come together.... *Please read the following and forward this to any new/first time shooter(s) who plan on attending.... Disclaimer & Requirements: The Practical Rifle events at the Aurora Sportsman’s Club are not super high speed as we always need to take a wide range of skill levels into account, but the Practical Rifle event is not for shooters who have never fired a rifle before. Shooters attending the ASC’s Practical Rifle events need to have a solid practical understanding of the fundamentals of shooting and safely manipulating their rifles: (loading/un-loading, trigger finger placement, muzzle discipline, etc.). Prior formal instruction on shooting a semi-automatic rifle is highly recommended. *ALL shooters must bring their own eye & ear protection. *ALL shooters must provide their own ammunition. *NO steel core or “Armor piercing” ammunition will be allowed on stages that use steel targets (No exceptions). General info: Action Shooting Sports at Aurora Sportsmen’s Club Practical Rifle 3rd Saturday of Each Month (2012) The purpose of Practical Rifle is both competition and skills development. Shooters typically use modern magazine fed semi- automatic weapons such as AR-15s, AK-47 variants etc. Shooters challenge themselves by facing new tasks and situations each month. This is an opportunity to get your rifle "off the bench" and test your marksmanship skills while developing new skills most can't practice on the range. Shooters should plan on firing about 100 rounds. Shooters MUST be present and registered in time for the safety brief beginning at 9:30 am. If you arrive early, help setting up is always appreciated. Cost is $10 for ASC members, $20 non-members. Practical Rifle events use the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) rules for our events. This is to ensure all participants are on the same page, the most important thing to know is the range commands. Quoted: Got it. Making these a priority for 2012. We will see how many the wife will tolarate. So we get to see your pretty face again, eh? When are we going coyote hunting btw?? Also–– I won't be able to make this one. I've got grad school interviews all through jan/feb. (Which also means that if I get in, I might not be in IL for much longer and can't join you guys anymore

Nice, I should be able to make this one.
Would I be allowed to briefly sight my AR15 in before everything gets started? It is on paper but I'd like to make absolutely certain that I know where it's hitting. If any help is needed setting up that morning I would be more than happy to assist. |

We are usually tied up in the morning setting up the stages,so I cant promise you anything. There are usually a few club members who get there early to confirm zero on their rifles so maybe they can help you out. |

I am thinking of setting up something based loosely on this stage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv4BfvntOzk&feature=player_embedded
We have a steel popper that we can use for the first (shoot on the move) target.....More details as I put it all together along with a couple of other stages. |

I'll look into bringing you. It's been a real bitch to gain access to land. My only other option would be to take you up to our property in Wisconsin. Cost you about 260 in fees to hunt up there. |
| Im definitely going! I haven't shot with you guys in almost a year since starting my new job after graduation. Hell the last time I competed was with NighthawkIX in August for the arfcom Rockcastle 3Gun in Kentucky. I have requested off every 3rd Saturday so you will be seeing my ugly mug around a lot more often! haha |
I'm thinking it will be fun. My only concern is getting some of our cars stuck out there. We had a couple of shoots last winter that had a good amount of snow but no real issues. We will need to burn something or someone The heat in my car is out. I'm hoping to take care of it tomorrow....
