We have changed the week of the ASC Practical Rifle from the 4th Saturday to the 3rd Saturday of every month for 2012. Please pass the word! ***The Aurora Sportsman's Club Practical Rifle shoots will be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month during 2012****

***Next Practical Rifle event will be held on Saturday 21/Jan/2012***

We will have a few stages set-up for this months shoot. More info to be posted here as the stages come together....

*Please read the following and forward this to any new/first time shooter(s) who plan on attending....

Disclaimer & Requirements:
The Practical Rifle events at the Aurora Sportsman’s Club are not super high speed as we always need to take a wide range of skill levels into account, but the Practical Rifle event is not for shooters who have never fired a rifle before.

Shooters attending the ASC’s Practical Rifle events need to have a solid practical understanding of the fundamentals of shooting and safely manipulating their rifles: (loading/un-loading, trigger finger placement, muzzle discipline, etc.). Prior formal instruction on shooting a semi-automatic rifle is highly recommended.

*ALL shooters must bring their own eye & ear protection.

*ALL shooters must provide their own ammunition.

*NO steel core or “Armor piercing” ammunition will be allowed on stages that use steel targets (No exceptions).

General info:
Action Shooting Sports at Aurora Sportsmen’s Club
Practical Rifle 3rd Saturday of Each Month (2012)

The purpose of Practical Rifle is both competition and skills development. Shooters typically use modern magazine fed semi- automatic weapons such as AR-15s, AK-47 variants etc. Shooters challenge themselves by facing new tasks and situations each month.
This is an opportunity to get your rifle "off the bench" and test your marksmanship skills while developing new skills most can't practice on the range. Shooters should plan on firing about 100 rounds.

Shooters MUST be present and registered in time for the safety brief beginning at 9:30 am. If you arrive early, help setting up is always appreciated. Cost is $10 for ASC members, $20 non-members.

Practical Rifle events use the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) rules for our events. This is to ensure all participants are on the same page, the most important thing to know is the range commands.

So we get to see your pretty face again, eh? When are we going coyote hunting btw??

Also–– I won't be able to make this one. I've got grad school interviews all through jan/feb. (Which also means that if I get in, I might not be in IL for much longer and can't join you guys anymore )

Nice, I should be able to make this one.

Would I be allowed to briefly sight my AR15 in before everything gets started?  It is on paper but I'd like to make absolutely certain that I know where it's hitting.

If any help is needed setting up that morning I would be more than happy to assist.

We are usually tied up in the morning setting up the stages,so I cant promise you anything. There are usually a few club members who get there early to confirm zero on their rifles so maybe they can help you out.

I am thinking of setting up something based loosely on this stage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv4BfvntOzk&feature=player_embedded

We have a steel popper that we can use for the first (shoot on the move) target.....More details as I put it all together along with a couple of other stages.

I have tentavly gained access to 40 acres down south I'm waiting for my buddy to get his foid renewed. I'll look into bringing you. It's been a real bitch to gain access to land. My only other option would be to take you up to our property in Wisconsin. Cost you about 260 in fees to hunt up there.

If your looking for volunteers willing to pay to hunt Yotes.. I am all in for that

Im definitely going! I haven't shot with you guys in almost a year since starting my new job after graduation. Hell the last time I competed was with NighthawkIX in August for the arfcom Rockcastle 3Gun in Kentucky. I have requested off every 3rd Saturday so you will be seeing my ugly mug around a lot more often! haha

Excellent! We will have a few stages set-up for Saturday. It looks like it is gonna be colder than a witches titty out there so y'all better wear your long johns!

Yeah...we switched 2012 to a different weekend so that folks could shoot both IDPA and practical rifle without having to come on 2 days of the same weekend.

Now...Nick, with these 6-8 inches predicted for tomorrow night?  What are you thinking?
1/19/2012 9:13:07 AM EDT
[#16]
Don't know what Nick is thinking but I  would still show up..train as we fight... Besides I already have permission to go...

I'm thinking it will be fun. My only concern is getting some of our cars stuck out there. We had a couple of shoots last winter that had a good amount  of snow but no real issues. We will need to burn something or someone The heat in my car is out. I'm hoping to take care of it tomorrow....
1/19/2012 10:34:59 AM EDT
[#18]
Is there a burn barrel there? If we all grabbed some firewood we could at least have a barrel going...

Nick, count me out on this one...
1/20/2012 9:27:38 AM EDT
[#21]
depending on how bad the snow gets tonight...

I have a 2 hour drive as it is, so if it turns out that it might be a 4 hour drive I will be out...

Any way we can get an update we on or not? Snow is pretty bad if it mucks the roads up too bad I might pass on this.

[#23]
It's still on! Bring it!!!
1/20/2012 3:42:33 PM EDT

Sorry Nick, not going to make it, just got in from the road and don't want to fight it in the morning...

Nick and I will at least prepare a "tactical plinking" session.  (translation, bring out some steel, have some fun, shoot what we can and then when we're all too effin cold to do anything else, we head to pub west.)

1/20/2012 6:54:53 PM EDT

Hopefully the roads will be better tomorrow, in any case im still a coming!
1/20/2012 8:22:26 PM EDT

if the roads are bad I will not be coming. I forgot my phone at work so no safety net for me. Well see if I can make it.
