From the article: “We’re still working on fine-tuning the bill,” Pearson said when I asked him about its chance of passing, “and nobody can say what the Illinois Legislature is going to do.” Yet, the association has listed Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) as a likely “yes” vote on the bill. |

Steve Chapman had a great editorial completely defusing the latest attack by anti-RKBA folks. View it here.
Essentially - "Okay - CCW holders killed 288 people in four years. Non CCW holders killed 60,000. So CCW holders killed fewer people"" I would have touched on the inclusion of "legally justified" homicides and suicides in VPC's numbers but it does mention that one of the CCW homicides wasn't even gun-related.
I'll take what we can get... especially from the Trib. |

There a lot of compromise needed to get the votes for this to pass which will have to be a super majority (71 votes rather than the normal 60) if Madigan pulls his normal stunt. Plus I'd bet we're going to have to beat Quinn's threatened veto.
Currently it sounds like its $ 100 for 5 years with classroom and range qualification. Stay out of schools, libraries, govt buildings etc. If you've never met Todd V the Lobbyist from the NRA in Springfield, He's our kind of guy. We need to get this passed, It will not be perfect, but there will be time in the future to amend it once its established. I know Todd is adamant about trying to make this universal state wide as possible we don't need the state chopped up into a legal mine field depending which side of the street your on , county or city your in. Theres too many gun regulations in the state like that up north already. If you get a chance listen to Cam and company Todd is supposed to be on it but I'm only thru the first 30 minutes of a 2:30 show. NRA News Cam and Company podcast Imagine Chicago's anti firearms groups are also going nuts because theres a bit of a lid on to whats going on currently. The Police chiefs association just had another vote trying to withdraw its support of the bill as some of the northern chiefs did not attend the original vote some time back. The vote to withdraw failed. I'll update the time Todd is on the link when I trip across it. Remember Todd is on our side, He will do right by us! Cam starts discussing Illinois @ 1:07:00 Todd @ 1:26 |

Quoted:
Likely a time limited permit with classroom and range requalification plus associated 'reasonable fees'. Another key will be if the permit is a "Shall Issue" or "May Issue". I'd bet on "may issue" for now... but many states started with "may" and progressed to "shall" once the antis had the lack of "blood in the streets / OK Corrals" rubbed in their faces. |

According to Todd Vandermyde it's going to be shall issue. Not too long ago he actually had a couple anti's in Springfield offer to show support for a may issue bill if he'd get behind something they wanted. He flat out refused. |

I'll take what we can get... especially from the Trib. Champman did a good job on that basic, common sense piece in the paper. He brought up a lot of points, that I had wished a credible staff writer would bring up, about the phony statistics, that the anti-ccw groups use, to scare people, including legislators, and law enforcement, away from supporting ccw. |
