What Chicago area gun store has the "best" selection of handguns?

I'm in Chicago every other week or so, and would like to stop by some shops on my way home.

There are no gun stores in Chicago proper.  Handguns weren't even legal in Chicago until about 2 months ago.

What direction to you pass into/out of Chicago?  THere are some shops in the suburbs.

Gat and/or Cabela's, maybe not the best in Chicagoland but they're near each other. I can't imagine Gat not having what ever you're looking for.

If you take I80 to get home you could stop by  Mega Sports .Otherwise GAT Guns or Cabella's

You may find Chucks gunshop in Riverdale / Dalton It's primarily the closest gunshop to Chicago proper. It's been subject to protests by Jessie Jackson, and some of the militant-anti chicago reverends in the past.
Chicago police even have to go outside Chicago to buy weapons for themselves.

As for Chucks It's not in the best neighborhood in the world.  I'd recommend you avoid it, if your just out trying to enjoy yourself.

Mega in plainfield has a large selection  but you paying for that nice facility also.

I'll take 55/80, 88, or 90 depending on what I want to check out on the way home.

I'm quite familiar with Cabela's, but they don't have a few things I'm trying to put my hands on; and the shops around here don't have them either.  Trying to check out the small Sigs, Browning, and a few others.

I've never had a problem at any IL gun shop.  I just produce an Iowa driver's license and their fine with that.  I live right on the border.  The shop I purchase most of my stuff from is in IL.  It's a non-issue.  Just have to arrange transport to a shop down the road from my office if I purchase a gun.

Not mine.  On my short list however.  And nope, don't fly for the airlines.  I get to keep it fun.

That 195 looks really familiar.  My father has had one for the past 23 years.  Over the years we have met quite a few owners.  Thought by chace I knew ya.

Besides Chuck's, there is:

1) Shore Galleries on Devon Ave. in Lincolnwood, IL.

2) Illinois Gun Works, Elmwood Park, IL, on Grand Ave., a half block west of Harlem Ave.

3) Midwest Sporting Goods on Plainfield Rd. in Lyons, IL.

All three are in border towns ( 9-12 miles from downtown Chicago), so Daley never succeeded in closing these businesses.

Shore works a lot with Chicago Police, so their inventory leans heavily to law enforcement. IL Gun Works recently expanded into the larger business space next door, so presumably they are expanding their smaller inventory. They are offering Chicago permit classes.  Midwest has a higher amount of inventory than the other two, but still way less than GAT Guns, Dundee, IL, which is way out of downtown Chicago (35 miles or so).

Slightly further out of Chicago is Maxon's on Rand Rd. in Des Plains, IL., which is approximately 17 miles from downtown Chicago. Their size and inventory is comparable to IL Gun Works, IMHO.

Hope this info helps.

As the only one I have been to recently, I will have to second MegaSports in Plainfield.  I was impressed with how many guns they had there.  I will also agree that they do have a bit higher prices due to the massive inventory.
