Ive done some Google searching and I am fairly sure I know what needs to be done, I just want to triple check.

My uncle lives in Washington state and has a lever action rifle he doesnt mind loading me.  The only issue is the fact the gun would have to be shipped from him to me.  What needs to be done in order for my uncle to ship the gun to me?

Unloaded for sure.  Does it have to go through a FFL here?  Does it have to be overnight shipping through UPS?

If you are not the new owner, have him ship it to himself c/o you. Use the Post Office, it's cheapest and always fun to ship guns there.

After careful consideration...the members of this forum may be very smart...but Id rather just ask a FFL.  Especially if I know one.  I gave him a call and he will let me know.

straight from the horse's mouth:  http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/unlicensed-persons.html#shipping-firearms-usps

Also read the USPS section here: http://www.thegunzone.com/ship-guns.html

What it will really come down to, if you are worried about it, is the technicalities of what 'transfer' means. He's your dad, he is letting you use it while he is retaining ownership. People mail their guns to a hunting lodge or a hotel ahead of them so they don't have to fly with them all the time.  I  (as a non-dealer) use USPS to mail to FFLs when selling.
It's your call really –– there is no mention made of someone who could just throw it in their car and drive across the country with it and is possessing it legally. I can't advocate doing anything illegal, but this is one of those instances where the letter of the law isn't following the spirit of the law.

I am pretty sure that the FFL by you is not allowed to give you the rifle after having it shipped there, unless you fill out the full paperwork for it just as if you had bought it from him. This usually includes a large fee unless he's being really nice.

from the atf web site

Q: To whom may an unlicensed person transfer firearms under the GCA?

A person may sell a firearm to an unlicensed resident of his State, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law A person may loan or rent a firearm to a resident of any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law.A person may sell or transfer a firearm to a licensee in any State. However, a firearm other than a curio or relic may not be transferred interstate to a licensed collector.

[18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(d), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30]

I'd have him ship it USPS.
