I am trying to make sure i am following correct protecol for doing a FTF in Illinois.
What do you guys do when making a sale besides making sure they have a FOID? what kind of paperwork, language used in said paperwork? and do you still have to follow the wait periods.

Thanks for the help

I try to get a copy of the FOID. At least write down the FOID number and buyer info. I just keep a record of the sold firearm type and serial # w/ the fore mentioned info. Yes, you are supposed to obey the waiting periods.

Yes, waiting periods are still required on a FTF.  Can't speak to the other as I've never sold FTF, but I'd be inclined to keep a bill of sale with names, addresses,  signatures, FOID numbers, description and S/N.   You have to retain this for 10 years from date of transfer.

Does Illinois have a waiting period for firearm purchases and does it apply to private sales?

Yes. Illinois law requires withholding the delivery of a concealable weapon (i.e. a handgun) for at least 72 hours and a rifle, shotgun, or other long gun for at least 24 hours. This applies for gun dealers and private sales.

The record must contain date of transfer, description, serial number.

The waiting period starts when the two parties agree on a price in a FTF deal, on the phone, via email, etc, IIRC.
