| Went and shot at Midwest Sporting Goods and they informed me they updated their vent system so now you can shoot any type of rounds there, not just "clean" rounds. They also informed me they will also be updating their range so you can shoot rifle rounds. The only calibers they mentioned were 7.62x39 and .223/5.56 but said there might be more. About time since I've been sick of using HP or costly clean rounds to go there and now I won't need to drive far to test my rifles. |

Wow your the second person I've read that had a bad experience with them. Not sure who you talked to but I know of one bald guy upstairs that talks fast and acts like your wasting his time because he knows more than you. Him I avoid and would suggest to do the same. Everyone else is pretty friendly. I do only go there for the range and guns. The ammo and accessories are sometimes overpriced but not all of them. Defiantly no more than equal or less than Mega Sports. They were packed today which is not unusual. I personally wouldn't have any shop order accessories since you can find it cheaper online and sent right to your house. Sorry to hear that one experience shunned you from there. |

Midwest is in crook county so I try and stay away from there with my ar. They do have a cool dog in there that can turn on and off the lights (upstairs)...
last time I went they had a cowboy theme shooting night (invite only). It is really cool, only problem is that the staff are a little arrogant at times. I tend to go to Rinks more. The staff is great and are very knowlegable. |

No experience with Midwest, but I haven't found Rinks to be much better than Midwest is being described. I went in to see about a surplus rifle, which they didn't have in stock but quoted me a price on. It was significantly higher than I'd seen advertised elsewhere, so I truthfully told them I had called a distributor prior to my visit there and it could be ordered for $200 less than they were quoting. They were not interested in letting me order it and transferring it instead preferring to tell me they would give it to me for the distributors price +$150. I realize that includes shipping, but I'd ordered rifles from this distributor before and shipping did not even reach $50 for 2 rifles, 1 pistol and 500 rounds of pistol ammo! Plus, if they simply did a transfer, there wouldn't be sales tax, but if I bought it from them, there'd be another $60 in tax.
End result, I purchased elsewhere. Had they offered to do the transfer for $50, which I still think is high, I'd still have gone through them for the convenience. Oh yeah, a friend was going to order one too, so they would have made $100 if they did the two transfers - and they knew this. Instead, they made zero and yes, in effect "wasted" 10 minutes while I was in the shop. I know FFLs are precious few in IL, but they aren't that rare. |

They did say you cant have any assault rifles, ar15's and such.......what was that damn law/bill that states awb for cook or whatever....Im tired of keeping up with illinois and cook county laws,......so the ar im trying to buy, is really a no-go ? we cant have ar15's in cook county? Im not in chicago. It is cool the y will have a few stalls for rifle but dang. TIA

| Illinois is a clusterfuck of rules and laws. Midwest is in Lyons and the cook AWB does not apply there. They don't sell ARs or AKs but they probably could. They have plenty of other items like high cap mags for rifles and handguns. There are many other towns with the same rules but you have to read up to find out which ones. |
