Did this place ever reopen after it was kicked out of its Irving Park Road location by the O'Hare expansion?

When I was there right before it closed the owners said they were going to find a new location and reopen.

They are still looking.  They found a couple locations but every time the city they are planning to have a shop at has a public meeting... they get turned down.

Thanks for the link.  It would be great if they moved to Hanover Park.  It was nice to be able to shot rifles indoors in the winter.

The times we live in...
I hope they get settled down soon.

Who knew that the towns would become desperate for revenue money from a gun range.

I hope they built it near my town.

ncozzo,

Thanks for the info.  I hope they can get it together within the next year or so.  Ammo is stockpiled in my closet just waiting to get send down range!

I hope they keep the rifle range too, and don't limit it to pistols.

well the tenative plan would to have every range stall double as rifle and pistol, along with the tactical range that can be rented out. but there will definately be both rifle and pistol

I hope they take a serious look at the DG industrial park along Belmont and the tracks. Ideal for a shooting range and gun store, close to major expressways, DG is heavily Republican and I live close by.

Hey Gun World, I work for a commercial real estate company and we can get deals done. PM me if you want our help on finding a location. We can build, lease, or build to suit if you desire.

As long as we're whoring it up, and I'm all about it, my law firm would love to handle the real estate purchase, licensing and whatever else you may need!

The DG area would be good, I could blow off some steam at the range and then get my car emissions tested all in 1 afternoon.

I contacted the Mayor of DG and here is what I was told:

My name is Greg Bedalov and I am President of the Downers Grove Economic Development Corporation.  Mayor Sandack told me of your interest in helping a gun range relocate to Downers Grove.  At this time a gun range is not a permitted use in the Village of Downers Grove.  To my knowledge, the Village’s strategic plan does not call for the zoning ordinance preventing a gun range to be looked reviewed.

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or comments
.

I replied: Hi Greg,

Thank you for the quick response. Just to clarify, Gun World is looking at an indoor range. What would need to occur in order to change the permitted use policy?

His response was:

Honestly, a lot.  It would require an amendment to the Village Zoning Policy, which would ultimately end up in the hands of the Village Council.  The official language follows below:

A petition to amend the text of this Zoning Ordinance may be initiated by any person, including any Village government office, department, board or commission, or Village resident. The petition shall be filed with the Director and shall include such documents, reports, maps and other information as may be required by the Director pursuant to Sections 28-300 and 28-304 (see www.downers.us).  This petition, including such other documents as may be appropriate, shall be transmitted by the Director to the Plan Commission, along with the Director’ s analysis and recommendation, if any.

   (b) Within ninety (90) days of receipt of a complete petition, the Plan Commission shall commence a public hearing.  Within forty-five (45) days after conclusion of the public hearing, the Plan Commission shall recommend approval or disapproval of all, or any portion of the petition and may condition such recommendation on such revisions to the proposed text change as the Plan Commission determines appropriate or necessary to protect the public health safety and welfare, and/or ensure that the text change will conform to the spirit and intent of this Zoning Ordinance.

   (c) Within ninety (90) days of receipt of the findings and recommendations of the Plan Commission, the Village Council shall approve, approve as modified, or deny the petition, or any part thereof.   The Village Council may approve or disapprove all, or any portion of the petition, including any modifications thereto, and may condition any approval on restrictions and requirements as the Village Council determines appropriate or necessary to ensure that the petition, as approved, will conform to the provisions of this Zoning Ordinance.  A violation of such conditions shall be deemed a violation of this Zoning Ordinance.  In the alternative, the Village Council may remand the petition, in whole or in part, back to the Plan Commission if the Village Council determines that it is necessary or appropriate to provide a fair and complete consideration of the petition because there is a material and significant change in conditions since the Plan Commission hearing, or there is new or additional information which is material to the petition and which was not reasonably available at the time of the Zoning Commission hearing.  The Village Council will specify the reasons and scope of such remand and further proceedings before the Plan Commission will be limited to such items.  The Plan Commission will conduct such further proceedings as may be appropriate and re-present the petition, with appropriate recommendations, to the Village Council within sixty (60) days of referral.  Thereafter, the Village Council shall render a final decision within sixty (60) days of such re-presentation.

I do not speak for the Village Council or the staff but I can tell you it is my belief that there is not support for this type of use within the Ellsworth Business Park at this point in time.

Ncozzo, if you need people to show up at the council meeting and testify to the economic advantage a gun store would prove to be, then please start a new Gunworld thread with that specific message.  I'm sure many AR15 people will provide support.

Even if testimony is not needed, having all the gun people show up at the meeting will prove to the council members that revenue for all businesses will go up, since all these non-Lombard residents will also spend money in the community (e.g. restaurants, gas stations, retail stores, etc.).

Can't never have too many gun stores

Damn, a range in Downers Grove would be perfect. Mega sports is to far to go often, I refuse to go to Midwest, and I haven't heard good things about Rinks.

Never been to Gun World but I found about 3,000 paper targets my dad had stored away with their name on it!

Too close to the elections to even consider anything like that.  No town is going to make a decision if they are holding an election.  Besides the point, the old man currently operating the sporting goods place would not like it one bit.

What?

The current sporting goods shop in town is in the "family" and would not like having competition.  But having one in the area would be nice.  Now that all the mayoral elections they might get better receptions from potential towns as they have 4 years to go.
